Video: Ex IGP MP SIs connected to Wele Suda: Police

Notorious drug smuggler Samantha Kumara alias Wela Suda had revealed that four persons including a Colombo District MP, two sub inspectors and a former IGP had connection with him, Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.

“We need to analyse his statement and we will reveal all their names and their connection with him,” he said.

SSP Rohana said investigations carried out so far had revealed that Wele Suda had involved in several other offences such as terrorism and people smuggling apart from drug smuggling.

“The CID is carrying out investigations to ascertain his involvement in those offences. He has been detained for three months under provisions of the anti-terrorism act,” he added.

SSP Rohana said Wele Suda sent drugs to his two agents in Kottawa and Maradana after which they had distributed them in the country.
Investigations also had revealed that they had sent money by using the Hawala method, which is against the international monetary regulations.
He said Police had interrogated six people so far and would question Hawala agents who transferred the money.

He said those who were involved in the drug smuggling as claimed by the suspect would be arrested irrespective of their positions and take legal action against them.

SSP Rohana said the Police would seek the assistance of the Financial Intelligent Unit of the Central Bank to find out about Wela Suda’s bank accounts operating in several countries such as Dubai, Pakistan, India and Malaysia. (Sanath Desmond and Ajith Siriwardana)
