The United States said that it was interested in working together with Sri Lankan Government on addressing humanitarian issues.

US State Department Deputy Spokeswoman Marie Harf expressed these views when asked about the Sri Lankan Government’s call to the United States to review its policy on Sri Lanka’s position on humanitarian reforms.

“We’ve said we’re interested in working together on addressing these issues. Let me see if there’s an update from our folks,” she said in the State Department news briefing on Wednesday

Sri Lanka has no intention of addressing and improving humanitarian issues. It therefore ignores helping hands extended.

Our customs will do a cavity search on all US Diplomats who come here !!!!

This is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS signal and I hope the Sri Lankan authorities totally reject it it. As several have commented, the world has seen how USA "worked" with people of Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and the utter havoc they caused including destruction of innocent lives, complete devastation of infrastructure resulting from such alliances. Please let there be a massive PUBLIC OUTCRY AGAINST such an alliance with USA. MM

When the UK/USA War Crimes are being exposed in the world & cases are now being filed in the international criminal courts, they must be having jitters running down their spines. bloody hypocritical war mongers, come down on your kneels.

First sri lanka should visit Singapore and learn how to treat human

    BuffaloaCitizen Friday, 17 January 2014 07:58 AM

But when it comes to recogonising and punishing criminals, they will take the proper decision.

    leo Friday, 17 January 2014 07:27 AM

    SL is not ready yet.

Thomas Ranger Friday, 17 January 2014 07:10 AM

You missed one very important factor here. Don't trust a Policeman,an American and a Sri Lankan politician.

    Nims Friday, 17 January 2014 06:43 AM

Guys US to should be given all those lesson regarding HR. Can you justify what they have done in South Korea, Vietnam,, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Syria etc. Us should be the last to be invited to work in Sri Lanka. May be both countries can learn the lessons from a country like Japan who TRULY respect human rights

Ranjith Silvar Friday, 17 January 2014 06:37 AM

Never Trust: A Policeman and an American.

Bill Clinton was sympathetic to SL. He banned the LTTE and even sent a warship when Jaffna was about be overrun by LTTE in 2000. Bush from 2006 - 2008 war the most helpful to the GoSL. More than you could ever imagine. This is what Gota thanked. But times have changed. US Administrations changed. John Kerry & Hilary Clinton are more sympathetic towards the LTTE, especially Kerry. Fortunately for GoSL, Obama is somewhat neutral, but that won't hold for long especially after 2016.

With what we have seen in Vietnam, Afganistan, Iraq etc. is USA really qualified to help any country with human rights issues?

    BuffaloaCitizen Friday, 17 January 2014 05:58 AM

Then why the heck did Gota thank US for their help to overcome the LTTE?

    Goofy Thursday, 16 January 2014 03:09 PM

It is a good idea to start working with the Sri Lanka Government. It has to start at Montessori level the first lesson will be "what is human rights".

    Rajendran Friday, 17 January 2014 05:05 AM

After suffering for years we are returning to our normal way of life gradually by great efforts of our president. How the US can help us is ' minding its own business'.

nicky karunarathna Friday, 17 January 2014 04:47 AM

Never to get snake inside the house nor take any help. That's the golden rule etched in the golden book. Remember what happened to Saddam Hussein of Iraq?

    Giann Friday, 17 January 2014 04:40 AM

We can teach the US how to handle humanitarian issues. Every place where the US has entered there is disaster and misery to the people daily.

    ukkun50 Friday, 17 January 2014 04:22 AM

Talk garbage. USA is a garbage nation based on garbage values. That's all they are good at.

    ukkun50 Friday, 17 January 2014 04:22 AM

wow USA teaching some one about human rights will be like a tiger teaching the benefits of a vegan diet.

    ukkun50 Friday, 17 January 2014 04:20 AM

Now SL should say we do not like to 'work' with the largest HR violators in the world, HR violators who do not even respect the privacy of people.

    Exorcist Friday, 17 January 2014 04:18 AM

Hope the stuff what they wanted is on the pipe line.

    bigfoot Thursday, 16 January 2014 06:38 PM

The question, however is, are WE interested?

    Fawzan Thursday, 16 January 2014 06:17 PM

No. They have start with who is human and how they differ from all these criminal politicians.

    Dhana Thursday, 16 January 2014 05:01 PM

India is hardening their position on the US diplomats by the day.

    Gamma Thursday, 16 January 2014 04:55 PM

Nobody asked US to work with SL. They only wanted you to review your position

Be Fair Thursday, 16 January 2014 04:08 PM

Interested........ you better be, for 30years we suffered thanks to a ruthless terrorist group when you were hibernating.
And now you are interested to talk...... Talk what....???????

    Sushila Thursday, 16 January 2014 03:46 PM

Marie Harf - Before you propose working with SL on HR issues, show an example to the world by updating on your HR violations which are thousand times worse than SL's issues!

    Will D. Harman Thursday, 16 January 2014 03:39 PM

We can see the results achieved by US working together with the locals in Iraq.
