The UNP claims that the arrest of UNF Colombo district candidate and former Sirasa media Director Susil Kindelpitiya was an act of political revenge by the government at a time when a General Election is at hand.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka speaking to Daily Mirror online stated that there was an acepted method of conducting an arrest after a complaint was lodged. And that an arrest of a candidate contesting an election at a time an election is at hand was wrong without conducting proper investigations.
Mr. Attanayaka further stated that acts Susil Kindelpitiya has been instructed to obtain the necessary legal advice against his arrest. Kindelpitiya was arrested by the police this morning over a complaint lodged by a woman last night alleging abuse and harassment. (Daily Mirror online)

If mother Lanka could speak, she too would complain loudly as to how assorted politicians have been abusing her day and night, for over 60 years. If lady Justice could speak, she too would complain as to how she has been repeatedly 'raped' for many years, under different regimes. Will the Police act on such complaints too?

Why not arrest Ranil before 8 th. and then lock up all the UNP candidates!!! Sri Lanka is more like Myanmar where political dissent is not tolerated by the Government.

Arrest all the opponents. Then Rajapaksas can win the election and get not 2/3 majority but 100% majority. What a pathetic state of democracy, free and fair election?

What is strange is that all these arrests and charges are made either when there is an election or in the event of someone going against the government in power. This is what creates suspicion, in the minds of the people. Actually, it is not 'suspicion' anymore. More like a joke now!

Anyone can accuse someone of 'misconduct,' if paid to do so by interested parties.

Is it appropriate to suggest that the police should act in a 'different' manner when the person accused of having committed a crime happens to be a political personality?

Kage kageth killotaye hunu tika tika thiyenawa. This is a Sinhala proverb. The meaning is everybody has done something wrong at sometime somewhere. So these so called holiest media men also have something hiding behind just like all the politicians. Whatever it is all are crooks.

This is exactly what they do in Myanmar-Sri Lanka is infested with the incurable cancer-our democracy is rotting-
We cant still bring to justice people who killed Lasantha-we cannot even arrest people who destroy public property-but we can take into custody a candidate for a trivial matter.RULE OF LAW Of the Jackasses!
