University non-academics have decided to go ahead with a decision to hold a countrywide strike tomorrow (Wednesday) after discussions today with Higher Education Minister S.B Dissanayake to increase wages and benefits had not been successful.

Ministry sources said that Minister Dissanayake had assured a revised salary package in three weeks time but no confirmation was given on the particulars of raise in the basic salary. Matters pertaining to the unions other demands such as 25% allowance increase, pension schemes, housing loans and other matters were not taken into account at the meeting with the Ministry and unions. This is effective in only few universities.
Jaffna,Sabaragamu,Vavuniya campuses didn't had any strike last 28,29 which was a token strike and everything was normal.Hope it'll be the same for this strike too.

It's high time solutions are found for their grievances. When undergraduates do not have lectures they will also start protest campaigns.
