For the first time in a decade the Building Material Corporation (BMC) earned a profit 25 times more than its highest recorded profit, Minister of Trade Johnston Fernando said.

“The BMC made a profit of 50 million compared to its profit of two million in 1999,” Minister Fernando said. According to him this is a huge achievement due to the boost in its sales revenue.

Meanwhile the BMC recorded a loss of Rs.20 million last year, Minister Fernando said. The BMC comes under the Trade Ministry and they imported and sold cement during the time of shortage in the market. (Sumaiya Rizvi)

Congratulations to the Minister Johnston Fernando for giving the necessary leadership to make this loss making institution a profitable one.
Even the Consumer Authority under his Ministry has increased revenue through charging of fines from business establishments. This has never happened in the history of the authority. Well done Mr.Minister.
Other loss making institutions under the government must take a cue from you.
