Three suspects were arrested for swindling Rs. 167, 500 from a man who was told that he had won a Rs.1.5 million cash reward from a private telecommunications service provider, police said.
It was revealed that two prisoners who were serving a jail term for numerous crimes in the Mahawa prison had committed the fraud using a mobile phone and the three suspects who were arrested are reported to have withdrawn the money from bank accounts and transferring them to other accounts.
The suspects were produced in the Pelmadulla Magistrate courts and remanded till August 18.
Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.

Those companies themselves are swindlers too. I got a message "you are registered for news alerts. Cancel if not necessary." They charge for what I never asked for, and they make it my responsibility to cancel it!!!
