Tensions in Bandaragama as groups clash over arrest of monk

A tensed situation developed in Bandaragama this afternoon after two groups clashed over the arrest of the Venerable Dambara Amila thero. The clash occurred when the JVP staged a protest against the arrest of the monk while supporters of another political party had come to the area for election campaigning, police spokesman SSP I.M Karunaratne said.

The Panadura and the Bandaragama police dispersed the supporters and managed to control the situation. A woman was injured in the clash, the police said. (S.D)
