If this is the best our MET Department can do, then it is much better to employ some crows and dogs to do their work. By the way, wonder what name they are going to give to this storm: Thal Maha?

Special weather satellites can help forcast weather in advance to some degree of accuracy. As for the Chinasat and Lankasat only the one and only ssatellite and space engineer may have a clue.

There is a simple answer to you question. Railway is mass transit and if you disrupt it more people get affected. The more people get affected the more attention you get from the government. Even though your little brain can not understand it these fisherman can.

Did not that Chinasat or Lankasat whatever it is foresee this disaster? at least there are some people with backbone though they are not that educated.

I saw this incident in the morning. I can't understand what the Railway has to do with the missing fishermen. Aren't fishermen supposed to check the weather patterns before they go out fishing? Ok as weather is unpredictable and can change, I can't understand the logic behind this protest. There was one fibreglass boat burning across the down track and a train stalled.

our met dept only worry about name of storms, nothing other than that
wahoo Saturday, 08 June 2013 08:21 AM
I believe these fisher folk's demands are legitimate. as a nation, we have all the resources for pageantry and not for an emergency situation... sad day for SL.
Fact Saturday, 08 June 2013 08:14 AM
Yes true...and the slow response from coast guard and navy....where are those big mouth cheap politicians????....be proactive than reactive.....
Achcharu Saturday, 08 June 2013 07:10 AM
We need a modern and an up-to date warning system all around the island for these sort of weather pattern warning, for we all know how accurate the Met Dept is on these matters.
Grace Saturday, 08 June 2013 07:05 AM
This kind of protest should not be overlooked .Because passengers' lives are put in danger.
DHA Saturday, 08 June 2013 06:56 AM
This is a direct results of our cheap politicians wanting to collect a few votes through the misery of these people.......besides our outdated Met Dept has to take the full blame they never issued a direct warning......
weha Saturday, 08 June 2013 12:00 AM
this shoes the moronic situation of the country. why cant they check the weather before going? besides what can the poor railway do about it?

Blocking roads to protest against the government has become a fashion in Sri Lanka. It is high time that the government pass some legislation banning blocking of roads by protestors causing ihconvenience to the public. Protests should be restricted to one side of the road and completely blocking a road should be prohibited by law. Otherwise Sri Lankans roads will be ruled by protrestors everyday.

If the Met Department can not how can the fishermen do it. A typical pinhead.
Porky Pig Saturday, 08 June 2013 05:34 AM
This is the result of a inefficient Met Department. There were no warning last evening on strong winds. it was only after the winds had slashed they say do not go to sea. Too late and too little.
