Tangalle killing - PS Chairman, five others further remanded



The six suspects who were arrested in connection with the killing of the British tourist Khuram Shaik Zaman and caused severe injuries to his Russian girlfriend Victoria Alexandrovna on Christmas Day at a hotel in Madilla, Tangalle were today, further remanded till January 20.
 
The six suspects included Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Sampath Vidhanapathirana, Lahiru Kelum, Praveen Chaturanga, Mohottige Saman, Saman Deshapriya and Ratnayake Weerakoon
 
Tangalle Magistrate Uresha De Silva directed the CID to obtain the Attorney General’s advice with regard to the sixth suspect Housing Development Authority Field Officer Ratnayake Weerakoon.
 
Mr. Zaman, who worked in the Red Cross in the area of physical rehabilitation in the war-torn Gaza Strip, was brutally murdered when he intervened to stop a clash between two groups of locals, who were under the influence of liquor. (Ariyadasa Kodituwakku)
