The Tamil issue in Sri Lanka is in the process of being resolved and the country's government is trying to find a solution to alleged human rights violations involving Tamil citizens, Sri Lankan High Commissioner in India Prasad Kariyawasam said today.

Kariyawasam said that peace reigned in the island nation now and the government was finding a political solution to demands and problems raised by ethnic communities, which would be of satisfaction to all of them.

"There is no violence now. We are in the process of reconciliation. Further elections are being held in the provinces. Now it is on the way to find a political solution that satisfies all communities," he said on the sidelines of a programme at the Maha Bodhi Society of India.

Asked about allegations of human rights violations involving the Tamils, Kariyawasam told PTI, "Those allegations are there. But we have set up a Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission which, we hope, has gone into all those and gave us recommendations and the government will implement it."

"The allegations are there. But we are taking care to find solution to the issues raised by those allegations.

Tamils are our brothers and they are an integral part of Sri Lanka," he said.

The high commissioner underlined the significance of Buddhism in determining the India-Sri Lanka bilateral relationship, saying Buddhism was an umbilical cord to the ties between the two countries.

An accepted political solution for Tamils by all communities is NOT possible because majority Sinhalese oppose giving police and land powers to Tamils. Without these powers Tamils cannot preserve their traditions and moral values.
North and east are Tamil's homeland and other communities should not involve here. Did Tamils ever involve in Sinhalese dominated provinces in South?

We spent all these years shedding blood when we could have resolved these as described by Prasad Kariyavasam. Make him the president.

Year after year for many years "it is B... E... I... N... G... solved..............."
the total lack of genuine comitment is detrimental to the peaceful and happy living of all Srilankans.
"We are T...A...K...I...N...G... C...A...R...E... to find solutions to the issues"
BUT the prioroty is for us to stay in power and look after our own interest. Me and my family come first.

Solution is always “in progress” over the three decades. LLRC is a cardboard committee formed to cover up the atrocities committed by our leadership.
