Suspicious Fishing Trawler arrested in international waters

A Multi day fishing trawler which was heading towards Maldives was detected by Indian maritime security vessel newly commissioned ship ‘Vaibhav’ in international waters. As the movement was unusual and suspicious and it is common for these type of trawlers to be used for smuggling operations in these areas. The security personnel in the Indian maritime security vessel have boarded the trawler. Upon checking the cargo hold the Indian Coast Guard officers had found 3-Chinese Made RPG machine guns and 7 Chinese made T-56 Assault Rifles with ammunition concealed. The trawler said to be sailing for a Tuna catch but there was no Tuna in the hold although there was about 5 Metric Tons of Ice. The trawler has been taken with the crew for detention to an Indian fishery harbor for further investigations (PTI)
