Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage promised today that there would be change of administration and an election of office bearers at Sri Lanka Cricket after the current tour of England by the national team ends.

“Clearly we are going for an election. After the current tour of England there will be a change at Sri Lanka Cricket. You will then get all the answers you need for your questions” Minister told a local TV channel today.

Minister also admitted that there were weaknesses in the present administration which was appointed by the government Sports Minister in 2009.

“We admit that Sri Lanka Cricket is in some sort of a financial crisis. There also admit that there are certain weakness in the administration. I agree that these administrators could have seen more about this institution financially.

One part is suppressed? Who told you? get a life.
    The whole country is suppressed!

    Justin Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:40 AM

A minister to resign?? In Sri Lanka?? Dream on....

    CONCERN Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:57 AM

I am sure already the election is won by the man who is retiring in England. In our countrry elections are a farce. It will be never retiring SJ heading the SLC.

    chintha Wednesday, 22 June 2011 04:01 AM

We need new proactive Sports Minister as well!

    KABAB Wednesday, 22 June 2011 04:25 AM

Forget about genuine elections in SL. It will be same as computer gilmart.

    Haththilawwea Wednesday, 22 June 2011 04:30 AM

of course you will appoint your left and right hands...will it be Sanath? SLC has become a political arena where everyone is joking and ruining the institution

    kd Wednesday, 22 June 2011 04:50 AM

i'm not a great admire of this minister but what he had told here gives some sort of comfort to me as a cricketing lover. Whoever it is if a good thing is done in good faith we appreciate it. HOPE FOR THE BEST IN SRI LANKA CRICKET!

    I Hussein Wednesday, 22 June 2011 05:26 AM

So the minister agrees that there is financial crisis. Last sunday in an interview Nishantha Ranatuge Denied this in an interview.
Thanks Minister but need a comprehensive change not kicking some innocent small members out and retain the rogues on top.

    I Hussein Wednesday, 22 June 2011 05:25 AM

Can you name one proactive? That era is over mate but this minister is not that bad. Actually he is active but he is lack of knowledge and admn qualities. He can get the work done though, besides there are other inferences which many ministers cannot admit for reasons we all know.

    Manujer Wednesday, 22 June 2011 05:29 AM

Please tell what is the most suitable ministry for him, considering his qualifications ? In fact, overlooking his thuggery in Nawalapitiya that Dr. Amunugama knows.

By Gad Wednesday, 22 June 2011 05:38 AM

Well said, Maha Raja, but who will be the puppeteer ? At present, there is one with a beard, no ?

    Ranger Wednesday, 22 June 2011 05:39 AM

My Dear Chintha, in Sri Lanka threr are three distinctive types of people. 1) the proactives or those who can see whats coming, 2) the re-actives or those who get fired into action after the event and 3) those who sit and watch the world go by. You tell me to that category these high talking Ministers fit.?

Lanke Banda Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:26 AM

Do not change the Pillow thinking this remedy will cure the Illness. Administrators need not necessarily be Cricketers but necessarily be Honest,Professional people.

    Minister Wednesday, 22 June 2011 06:17 AM

    Fallen to the pressure..eh??

    Concerned Wednesday, 22 June 2011 06:18 AM

No worry, computer gilmart system is there!!

sumith chandana Wednesday, 22 June 2011 06:21 AM

All know from top to bottom .............................so I dont think nobody will be punished other genearl public

    BF Wednesday, 22 June 2011 06:35 AM

Anotehr set of jokers will come and ruin Sri Lanka cricket. They should have an election giving all clubs to vote and select a board who can run the board effectively without any corruption.

    BF Wednesday, 22 June 2011 06:43 AM

SLC has become a thieves house. Anotehr set of thives will come to make further damages. When this is going to end.

    Anu Wednesday, 22 June 2011 07:04 AM

Our politicians do not know whther they are coming or going...

Bertu Raneshwaran Wednesday, 22 June 2011 09:08 AM

About time too! Mr Minister. But what about the thives who stole the discs containing the account details of the
Rupees Five Billion spent on "venues "

Lanka boy Thursday, 23 June 2011 03:56 AM

Muppets and jokers keep changing. Nothing new. Same old routine.

    Tamilan Tuesday, 21 June 2011 07:30 PM

CRICKET NEEDS THE SUPPORT OF THE WHOLE COUNTRY. SINCE ONE PART OF THE COUNTRY IS SUPPRESSED HOW DO YOU GET SUPPORT FROM THOSE PEOPLE. DEVOLVE POWER TO TAMILS AND GET THEIR SUPPORT IN HOME AND ABROAD

    freehit Tuesday, 21 June 2011 04:35 PM

Financial crisis is an understatement, it is more like bankruptcy. And please don't brag, Mr. Minister before getting your proposals approved at the top.

Maha Raja Tuesday, 21 June 2011 04:43 PM

one set of puppets will go ... and a new set of puppets will replace them !

    ranjana Tuesday, 21 June 2011 05:03 PM

People like Ana Punchihewa, Renzie Wijetilake, Hemaka Amarasooriya were good administrators who did justice to the Gentleman's game. The ruination stated with people who were appointed and hell bent on making money and then followed up with people in the present administration after Lokuge became the sports minister. They have political backing but coffers are empty after the world cup. . Bag loads of money have been robbed. There were unwanted expenditure to boost politicians. Now we are on the verge of been kicked out of ICC if proper elections are not held for 2012. Already India is not toeing the line with us on the SLPL .

    ag Tuesday, 21 June 2011 05:07 PM

So what will be the punishment for them?

    rosh Tuesday, 21 June 2011 05:17 PM

This seems a white washing the dirty cricket missions to me. First of all, answer all the questions pointed at SLC, then punish the thieves, and then only appoint new. Else the current henchman would be thrived with all they earned underhand and still live freely. If its not your way of doing this, I feel you too had some share of the underhand businesses!!!

    Aravinda Tuesday, 21 June 2011 05:26 PM

But two months ago didn't he say that all is well at Sri Lanka Cricket. Oh.. these politicians.

    1shot Tuesday, 21 June 2011 05:32 PM

change is not because d minister wants it but because i.c.c. Is about to make it law that all boards are to b elected by elections.

    GanjaRabbit Tuesday, 21 June 2011 05:47 PM

once again shutting the door after the horse has bolted, with the stable boy as well...

    clueless Tuesday, 21 June 2011 05:58 PM

Uncles and Nephews can start packing now... But with the somewhat (potentially) lucrative SLPL in the wings, I soooo don't see this happening! I see this as only 'buying time'...

    ManX Tuesday, 21 June 2011 06:06 PM

Changing pillows is not the solution for this headache.

simple mind Tuesday, 21 June 2011 06:25 PM

When the answers come can we find out why 7billion rupees was spent hosting the WC when it was budgeted for 4billion.

    kalaveddah Tuesday, 21 June 2011 07:18 PM

No point doing any change as long as this man is minister. Like in Education, Sports also needs a cultured minister. Someone who is a thorough , educated gentleman and not a sarong-johnny type of thug.

    saranga Tuesday, 21 June 2011 04:28 PM

    Finally some action

    Peter Tuesday, 21 June 2011 08:10 PM

Instead of the fog of war, the fog of corruption and mismanagement obscure practically everything done by SLC. Stop appointing sycophants and hangers-on. Appoint administrators with experience in management, enhanced by actual cricketing experience. Cricket is a business. Run it with that in mind. Stop political interference. Give SLC a clearly defined mandate, assess prgress against that mandate regularly, hold office bearers responsible, have strong financial controls. Simple, when you know how.

    TRUE Tuesday, 21 June 2011 10:17 PM

    handover miltery administration

Ranjan Rodrigo Tuesday, 21 June 2011 10:18 PM

Too late. The horse has bolted and u are closing the gate. The 2 new stadium will be white elephants. Cricket is going from the frying pan to the fire.
Cricket will come clean only if politicians steer clear of Cricket. In Australia even when Katich was unfairly sacke, the minister only criticized but did not interfere. That is why Aussies have remained on top .
    Ranjan Rodrigo

    francis Tuesday, 21 June 2011 10:33 PM

too late too little Mr Minister, you should also resign for this mess following the example of the former IGP

Ranjit Silva Wednesday, 22 June 2011 12:24 AM

I hope the Minister will stick by his word.

    Coolman Wednesday, 22 June 2011 01:26 AM

About time too. Decision was after threat from ICC to kickout SL. If not, the old band would have gone on playing and looting.

    auto Wednesday, 22 June 2011 02:36 AM

Administration change Must start from you Minister
since you have no Sports back ground......Please get your self transfer"d to some other Ministry.,,Good luck

    spark Wednesday, 22 June 2011 02:45 AM

The former IGP is now right royal ambassador to Brazil, gift for his resignation and for covering up the sins of his masters.

    Arjuna Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:09 AM

Be the change you want to see in others!

    Basila Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:10 AM

You are going to re elect the board its good but don't do the computer jillmart.

    basila

Prema de SIlva Wednesday, 22 June 2011 03:18 AM

Everyone is hoping that the Sports Minister will stick to what he says and have democratic elections to appoint officials to the SLC like it was done before by all the Clubs, At least they planned and ran the SLC without making it bankrupt like now. The simple fact that they have to answer to the Clubs with whatever they do makes these officials scared to do what the present lot are doing. We are all waiting to see what happens.
