President Rajapaksa in a congratulatory message to newly elected Iranian President Hassan Rowhani today wrote that he is looking forward to strengthening relations between the two countries, which bear a rich history of over six decades.

In his message the President had stated, “Sri Lanka and Iran enjoys strong historical bilateral ties that predate the modern diplomatic relations which were established more than six decades ago,” while adding that he is looking forward to working with President Rowhani to further strengthen the bilateral ties.

Furthermore he had expressed his confidence in President Rowhani’s vast experience in the realm of politics and the affairs of the state as well as in his leadership qualities, to provide the necessary guidance needed to steer Iran forward.

Congrats to MR for having a unique foreign policy in our country. We do not need the old colonialist & imperialistic regimes like UK, USA, etc. How much help has China given to us? SL and people should appreciate all this.
