Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka today requested the Prisons Chief to provide him with a fan, an exercise machine and a bed, informed sources said.

The request was made during a meeting with Prisons Chief Major General V.R De Silva at the Commissioner’s Office at Welikada.

In response, Maj. Gen. Silva had informed Fonseka that will convey the message to the Ministry of Justice without delay.

Its only human decency to provide what he asks for, Was he not the man who brought freedom to our country while the others were only talking about it. Its a crying shame how a war hero is being treated in our country. ingratitude at its best, I cannot understand how the civilian leaders in our country just look the other way, when such injustice is taking place.

I think Major general Silva should have the authority to provide the basics needs like a bed to a prisnor. If he has to ask that from the ministry of justice, then i feel he is not given enough powers as a commisioner.

Anyway I'm hoping his appeal against the verdict of the military court will be heared soon and justice will happen to him. I think there are more than ten ways to prove the verdict given to him is wrong . He will surely be General sarath Fonseka again.

SF is a convicted prisoner, he will have to be treated like other prisoners. He is being punished hor his wrong doings.
So why special treatments to him only. how about beds, fans and exercise bikes for all the other prisoners as well. why only for him. This is utter nonsense. SB was also in prison for 2 years and he never demanded for all these.

His request is not luxary, just basic needs to live healthy. do not forget he has eradicate the terrorism in our motherland. We have a duty to respect him and treat him in a good manner. If he was not in the battle front, we can not imagine how we face the situation when think of the LTTE arms recovered after the war.

Serenity, Don't forget that there are still pieces of bullets in his body. We cannot treat him just as an employee of the army. He could easily retire when he was attacked by LTTE in 2005 with all the perks and privileged. But he came forward again and said he will not remain LTTE for next army commander. Don't prove Prabha's comment about "SINHALAYA".

SF's conduct as a serviceman was obviously deplorable and unbecoming of the respectable position he held.

However, his contribution to the effort was immense. There can be absolutely no argument that he was vital for the victory and that the powers that be made use of his skill.

To that effect, while he is not above the law, he should still be treated with respect, even though he seems to lack any humility.

How we treat this man reflects more on us as Sri Lankans than on these two individuals.

This whole drama is an embarrassment to our people. An undisciplined serviceman and a vengeful and vindictive administration.
