Well said Minister. Then why you kept Douglas, Muralitharan and Chandrakanthan. They are culprits. Treat them very well

roy Wickramasinghe Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:48 AM

Minister I hope you will shout your mouth and enjoy the facilities you have received. Since these facilities are for a very limited time until the 19th Nove. After that most of you ministers will have to just suck some thing to keep your mouth shut!!!

    malkanthi Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:45 AM

You are absolutely correct, provided it is applicable in all. !
I strongly doubt whether you are really aware of the present law in our country?!!

    Galibba Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:45 AM

i think athauda should be behind bars b4 anybody.he should be ashamed of himself for saying such a thing.he might get a foreign tour for making such foolish statements.SUBA ANAGATHAYAK!

Banana republic-have no justice- ayo okkoma so called ministers knee before the king regime-wasipathata hooyiya-jayawewa !!!

    Athi Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:43 AM

Wasn't this minister involved in making crude home made explosive devices in 1971 ( loku or podi Athula?). Was he also kept in detention and rehabilitated? If so, those who rehabilitated him have failed in their duties. He should be sent to the rehabilitation camps again for another try and failing which we can reserve him a place at Mulleriyawa hospital.

    malkanthi Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:40 AM

All politicians will stoop low during this season to get a good ministry at the next term! This seem the only way to win the favour of the leader.

gUL fERNANDO Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:34 AM

Aboslutly sir, if Mad Fon is pardon we as a country has to face lots of unneccessory challanges. Let the feloow get good medical advice for mental health during two year term

monarawila nilame Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:17 AM

Athauda Seneviratne, all politicians are corrupted and fraud is in their blood, including you, but not convicted because they are superior than any ordinary citizen. Leaders are frighten of him, that is the only reason. just as another shameless politician, you too can give various reasons, but people know the truth. You cannot keep a rubber ball under water.

jim jam Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:17 AM

You are right Mr Minister... Why should an innocent person be pardoned when criminals are running around scot free?

    Nishan

You are 'spot on" he is not only a Just-Ice Minister but an idiot of the first degree, and a master bum-sucker..

    dilky Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:12 AM

You have an excellent point here. Let the court decide if SF is guilty or not. Till then he is a suspect and a prisoner. Hence he has to be treated accordingly and prison authorities must assure his security.

    nishan Thursday, 21 October 2010 03:20 AM

There is no "JUSTICE MINISTER" but a JUST-ICE minister.

    ravi Thursday, 21 October 2010 03:19 AM

    Tonto Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:53 AM

Rajinda Silva Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:46 AM

    Hirantha Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:41 AM

then how about the open fraud done my MP's

Ruwan Ferdinandez Thursday, 21 October 2010 06:59 AM

Yes SF said complete the opposite to Kohona putting Sri Lanka at a grave risk. It was SF's words that echoed all over theworld causing chaos, not Kohona's.

True, to be pardoned, he is not guilty. He only needs the justice. Thanks to god, at least now MP's understand the truth & speaks out. Thanks Mr. Athauda.

Ruwan Ferdinandez Thursday, 21 October 2010 07:00 AM

Does KP say anything against Sri Lanka now? Is he bothered about white flags? Fonseka also has that chance, he just has to take it.

    sanju Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:39 AM

Then what happened to the others.....

    Labby Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:55 AM

Sentenced for importing night vision glasses and batteries without the proper tender procedure. Is that the fraud he had committed ?

    Arthur Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:50 AM

The downfall was not because of the mouth but because he contested the presidency. The white flag story was in the media, both national and international, well before SF repeated having heard it. Palitha Kohonne also was reported in the media of having heard it and even suggested that they may have been shot by LTTE.

justice minister talks as if he is a saint!!!!

    Waruna Wednesday, 20 October 2010 11:57 PM

Ah. The "JUSTICE MINISTER" doesn't seem to know on what charge the GEN was convicted of!!!
There was no charge of "Fraud"!!!
With "JUSTICE MINISTERS" like these what JUSTICE- can we expect!!!!!

    victoria Wednesday, 20 October 2010 11:55 PM

What a shame?? There are murderers in the cabinet as ministers and another minister of the same cabinet wants SF should not be pardoned. Well SF or his family never wanted a pardon - BUT WE ALL WANT JUSTICE

Smart Aleck Wednesday, 20 October 2010 11:38 PM

What a joke! A Justice Minister who does not know the law. "All as sea on the Law - an "Admiral on the Law" talking about the General. And why raise the salaries only of the appellate court judges? Is there a hidden agenda?

    IVJ Wednesday, 20 October 2010 11:27 PM

Dear minister Seneviratne, if you apply the same logic, almost all parliamentarians should be in prison! Why double standard?

    sw Wednesday, 20 October 2010 11:25 PM

Dear Mr. Minister, people in glass houses should not throw stones at others, also you not understand the meaning of the word fraud. SF does not need any pardon he needs a fair trial.

True Sri Lankan Wednesday, 20 October 2010 11:24 PM

If the law is equal for all how come Minister Milroy Frenando's wife got pardon, who was convicted as murder and was sentenced to hang This is just court marshel ruling
and only for 2 1/2 years jail term. Banana republic, Kekille ruing and bunch puppet ministers don't know what they are talking

    NIhal J Wednesday, 20 October 2010 10:39 PM

Mr Athauda Seneviratne lets put this way deal is lets release all the prisoners you lot liars must go in to the prison for life. i think this should be much better then what your suggesting.

Wimal Herbert Wednesday, 20 October 2010 10:19 PM

Well said Minister. Been hailed as a "war hero" doesn't give Mr Sarath Fonseka a license to be a law breaker.

    ParakramaJ Wednesday, 20 October 2010 10:17 PM

I agree.Any such action may be considered only after all the court cases are heard and decided. He should also not be permitted to interact with people when he comes and leaves the court where he is attempting to show that he is a hero.If this is permitted any criminal who is being brought to court also should be permitted to do so.More so this is a great security risk...we have had enough instances where suspects have been murdered in such open situations and it is time that the authorities taken necessary steps to keep him away from possible harm and also keep him away from trying to be a hero..remember the recent utterance he made that he with others break away from the prison one of these days to bring back democracy to Sri Lanka!!!

Nishantha Rajapakse Wednesday, 20 October 2010 10:13 PM

I wouldn't be suprised if the Justice Minister only went till the 7th grade like Maithripala Sirisena...

    Nath Thursday, 21 October 2010 12:11 AM

Mr Minister, is mass murder a lesser crime than fraud in Sri Lanka? For fraud you are sent to prison and for mass murder you are made a minister?

    kamal Wednesday, 20 October 2010 09:55 PM

is that really ex comrade's word or his masters word ?

    GenX Wednesday, 20 October 2010 09:31 PM

Then what is your position on KP and Karuna, and Pillayana, George master ect?? Should they be pardon or Hang?? As for your logic, othere criminals who have killed and raped and are in jail must be in Temple Trees...
Yeah the very man who Rob Tsunami Aid, Raped womes is your boss nay.. what more can we ecpect.

    Suba Wednesday, 20 October 2010 08:57 PM

The General will not accept a pardon from anybody. The Govt. almost begged of SF to beg for a pardon. Nothing happened.

Then they used the 'family is not interested' card. Did not work.

Now, the Minister is trying to white wash the issue as the 'whole pardon issue' has made the Govt look bad.

Who needs a pardon when nothing wrong has been done?

    Cyril Fernando,Sydne Wednesday, 20 October 2010 08:41 PM

And KP is pardoned. What a bunch of jokers !

    Wisdom Wednesday, 20 October 2010 08:00 PM

SF CAUSED HIS OWN DOWNFALL WITH HIS MOUTH. HE CAN USE THE SAME TO SIMPLY APOLOGISE AND GET ON WITH LIFE.

UNENLIGHTENED PEOPLE MAKE THESE MISTAKES DUE TO GREED HATRED AND DELUSION.

HE SHOULD BE PARDONED IF HE ACCEPTS HIS FOOLISH BEHAVIOUR AND REGRET PUTTING THE COUNTRY DOWN.

COUNTRY ALWAYS COMES FIRST BEFORE SELF!

THE 'SELF" HERE IS USED IN A CONVENTIONAL SENSE AS THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SELF!!!

    sarath Wednesday, 20 October 2010 06:59 PM

    Another leaker of MR,.

Lasantha Pethiyagoda Thursday, 21 October 2010 01:36 AM

Justice must be equitable to all, and accessible to all citizens alike. People must be able to achieve justice in all dealings with government and private sector entities, through law-enforcement agencies and the judicial system. Those committing crimes, like accepting commissions, bribes, gratuities and the like, or becoming rich by unjust means, such as with tax payers' monies levied by government, should also be brought to justice and punished according to the law. Individuals should not be singled out for punishment due to their unsavoury nature or threat to one's future potential, but on the merits and magnitude of their crime, or loss to society in the national interest. The right of being represented by his own choice of legal advisor, the right to a jury, access to cross-examine both defendant and prosecutor and transparency to public view must be ascertained. These are some characteristics of a true democracy. Is Sri Lanka one of them?

    Ravana Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:38 AM

Why do you bother to publish things said by uneducated, serial bumsuckers of this kind ?

    spark Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:29 AM

What an idiotic justice minister we have. If Mervy ties a man to a tree, does it mean that all ministers in parliament should follow his example like buffaloes? Can you compare SF's hoaxed-up conviction created by your boss to other criminals who have committed multiple murder, rape etc...?

    Ranjan A Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:29 AM

Can you VERY EARNESTLY say that YOU are an UNCORRUPTED, FRAUD LESS politician???

    Dinesh Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:25 AM

Definitely. And u should rot in hell for being part of a system that punishes war heroes and hangs out with terrorists and traitors!

Calistus Jayatilleke Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:21 AM

So, does the Minister mean to say that General Fonseka is the only fraudster and all his ilk enjoying Parliamentary privileges are so pure and innocent. These old leftists who betrayed all they stood for and betrayed their followers, for privileges and luxuries are now talking as if they are big heros. What goes up surely does comes down one day.

Hemal de Silva Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:13 AM

    Of a fraudulent conviction?

    Danushka Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:08 AM

Just a question.. Then how come the wife of a minister got pardoned after she was sentenced to death. Where was the law then?

    m rifai nazim Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:07 AM

Unfortunate that our Justice Minister is unaware the sentence that passed which resulted him being serving a prison term. Either you read the sentence or please keep your mouth shut Hon Minister of Justice.

    SAM Thursday, 21 October 2010 01:59 AM

Well Mr.Minister, as SF was convicted for fraud on violating tender regulations and you are quite sure justice was served, then why don't you tell the civilized world (if any left), why others who sat at this same tenders are served with the same sentence? As they including Sec Defense surely would have known the connection between SF and non-in-law Dhanuna.
Also, let the public know the details of the other tenders too including the ones given to "Lanka Logistics". After all there is no security issues now that the war is over.

    pandula Thursday, 21 October 2010 01:57 AM

Well said. But can u explain how many kuddo and murders has been relesed from prison by president pardon.

    pandula Thursday, 21 October 2010 01:56 AM

Going shoping for MR before the name the new cabinet

    ToddySundar Wednesday, 20 October 2010 06:45 PM

What for? ,saving the people, Brave and Honest. SF did the hard work and the rest are enjoying the out come. What does that Minister knows? he must be a thug and a good boot licker.

    Yehiya-Doha Thursday, 21 October 2010 01:27 AM

What a shame story for a leftist minister. All are selfish

    Asanka Thursday, 21 October 2010 01:22 AM

    True..Sir...
    We are Sri Lankans.
If you say that, you guys in the parliament haven't picked a single penny from us.
But what about the people who killed thousands of humans?
For what reason you have pardoned them?
    for god sake...
If you don't have anything to say r don't have anything useful to talk about, keep you mouth shut...
    and listen to PILLIYAN...
    Asanka

Dr Wickramatillake Thursday, 21 October 2010 01:12 AM

Dear Hon Minister, I ALWAYS respect you as a lovely person as I worked closely with you, as your Director General. While I agree with your statement, then, if LAW IS NO RESPECTOR OF PERSONS, all those who are fraudulent like some Ministers, ex Ministers should also be in jail. You should extend your statement please.

    GT Thursday, 21 October 2010 01:12 AM

Then what about Karuna? He killed 600 policemen in 1990 and now he is a parliament minister. What a joke.

    puran Thursday, 21 October 2010 01:10 AM

where was the justice minister when the President pardoned to people who were serving a life sentence for murder?

Time we had another Minister of Justice. I suggest the learned Dr Mervyn Silva.

    sam Thursday, 21 October 2010 12:54 AM

Dont talk like the bloody fool you are. we should be ashamed as Sri Lankans to have elected these pack of fools to the Parliament. What does he know about justice to be the minister of Justice. How can he liken a common criminal to Sarath Fonseka who gave his entire life to the country. We are in the position today because of these fools like this minister.

    Lion Thursday, 21 October 2010 12:45 AM

The scoundral who cross party line to enjoy life courrupt from A-Z accusing a greatest man we have seen in of our life who broght us freedom.Aththuda you are not even worth of a hair of SF.Keep your mouth akin to cess pit shut.

    Katussa Thursday, 21 October 2010 12:35 AM

600 or 8oo? Karuna is not even questioned on this score but made a minister just because he supports the King!!!

    Wijebahu Thursday, 21 October 2010 12:31 AM

Yes as a Bogus Marxist I recommend Murderes and drug king pings who have right connection to the top should release instead.

    Athauda.

    Katussa Thursday, 21 October 2010 12:29 AM

If that is the case Mr. Seneviratne, consider yourself lucky that you have not in the same boat, as all politicians are frauds and have made their fortunes on shady deals and stealing from the people. And if similar charges are brought against them we'd have nobody in parliament- all being behind bars!!!

gALA PITA mADA Thursday, 21 October 2010 12:23 AM

    very true
