A body of a seven month old infant was recovered from the sewage system at the Nawalapitiya hospital while the laborers were clearing the sewage system for blockages

The body which had created the obstruction to the sewage system was not in a decomposed state.

Police said several similar incidents had been reported earlier from the Navalapitiyia Hospital. Acting Magistrate Nayanananda Alithgamage visited the scene and ordered police to arrest the suspects and to refer the body for postmortem. OIC Nawalapitiya Police Udaya Wickremesekara is carrying out further inquiries. (Suranga Rajanayake)

I think the time has come to educate women and the immediate close relatives, who may be ashamed for mistakes made, to make every effort to contact a humanitarian organization or orphanage for counsel and help. Create awareness that the innocent infant does not need to suffer or be annihilated for no faults of it´s own. It is time for religious / social organizations/ child wellfare centres to step in and be available to help those in need to stop this menace.
