UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardana was remanded till May 20 when the CID produced him in the Fort Magistrate’s Court today on charges of having misused several vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat.
Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said Mr. Gunawardana was arrested after the CID summoned him to record a statement on the misuse of these vehicles.
The CID had on February 26 recorded a statement from Mr. Gunawardane over corruption charges made against him by the Voice against Corruption (VaC), an organisation spearheaded by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Provincial Councillor Wasantha Samarasinghe.
Mr. Gunawardena was also questioned by the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID) on March 18 over allegations of non-payment of installments with regard to the leasing of 33 vehicles. (Darshana Sanjeewa & Sanath Desmond)

Sometimes, to start with, the minor misdeeds can be easier to prove and the big ones can be investigated in time, evidence collected, and justice meted out. Al Capone was first arrested for a tax violation, not for all the murders he committed

The arrest and subsequent actions are fine.As for misuse of government vehicles, I see a lot of state vehicles near schools picking up kids. Is that fine? The military, Air Force and Navy vehicles are easily identified.
