Gang storms journalist's house

A member of a robber gang, who attempted to rob the house of journalist Mandana Ismail Abeywickrema in Bambalapitiya, was killed when police opened fire at the gang in the early hours today, police said.

Two other gang members, who were injured due to the police fire, were arrested and admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. Three policemen, who came under attack from the gang members, were also admitted to the hospital.

Initial police investigations revealed that following information to the police emergency 119, a police team was dispatched to the house, where the incident took place.

A search operation was underway to arrest two more robber gang members, the police said.
