Road renamed FM Sarath Fonseka Mawatha

The road which connects Ananda Mawatha and Ketawalamulla Mawatha, Maradana will be named as Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka Mawatha on Tuesday.

Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) sources said this decision was made to pay tribute to Field Marshall Fonseka for the pivotal role he played in defeating LTTE terrorism. He was Sri Lanka’s Army Commander during the height of the 30-year war between 2006 and 2009.

CMC sources said the road will be renamed on TuesdayMay 19 when the country commemorates the day on which the war ended in 2009 with the defeat of the LTTE.

They said during the re-naming ceremony, deeds will be distributed to 30 householders whose houses at Ketawalamulla Mawatha were earlier demolished. (Yohan Perera)
