President Mahinda Rajapaksa today instructed the Cabinet to enact the proposed bill restricting land alienation to foreigners as soon as possible, informed sources said.

The Government will present this Bill titled, ‘Land (Restrictions on Alienation)’ to Parliament and if enacted it will restrict the alienation of lands in Sri Lanka to foreigners, foreign companies and institutions with foreign shareholding.

The Bill was placed on the Order Paper to be debated and passed into law in Parliament last week but it was withdrawn from the Order Paper later because of the lack of clarity on the content of the Bill.

The matter was discussed at the Cabinet meeting today. (Kelum Bandara)

And at the same time that this bill is expedited, dual citizenship continues in Limbo. All is good when it comes to shamelessly ripping off expats.
