Now that his position is secured, he will fly around the world soon. Mark my words.

    chinthaka Saturday, 01 December 2012 08:07 AM

RW- is the man to watch. He is prudent and sensible in his actions and leadership. His character assignation and how he handle the situation proved that he is the right leader to Lead United National Party to the next victory and the President 2014.. Now is the time to wait and see who he is. He is a leader who delegate roles to preform. Now the reforms will be on motion.

    hkshewa Saturday, 01 December 2012 08:13 AM

With the introduction of the old "past the post" election procedure, definitely the UNP will be relegated to the 3rd position at the next election under the leadership of RW!

    M.I.M. LAFIR Saturday, 01 December 2012 08:14 AM

When Ranil was elected another six years is good for Govt.and as far as RW is in opposition, MR has no dfificult in political life. I think RW is also minister without portfolio under the shadow MR's cabinet. RW and MR both are best friends. We have heard that in politics, your enemy's enemy is your friend.

    MaC Saturday, 01 December 2012 08:19 AM

how come 337 , voted against ? Was Tissa careless with invitations ?

Sonna Boy Saturday, 01 December 2012 08:16 AM

Well done UNP, this is a belated birthday present for MR which he will cherrish for the next 6 years!

    chinthaka Saturday, 01 December 2012 08:21 AM

RW- is a intellectual Global leader. Not a gangster and hypocrite. 2013 budget is made to whoes benift? Is it to the common mans good or to his sons? Who's supporting the LTTE today? all the privileges are given to LTTE why? where are the asset of LTTE? who is enjoying all that asset/wealth with the help of KP. Today KP do not have a single case to answer even when India request from SL, as per the HE the President. Man who is wise will understand RW.. I rest my case and points to ponder

    Fairose Saturday, 01 December 2012 09:19 AM

Security provided for the convention that attended just 5000 selected members suggest some complicity because this is not the ruling party convention that is attended by President and cabinet ministers. For Rajapakse, Ranil is the easiest candidate to beat.

Vaidy sathasivam Saturday, 01 December 2012 09:33 AM

The dissents can form another party taking part of the popular
majority support and stick to sinhala only

    Kamal Saturday, 01 December 2012 10:03 AM

Congratulations! Let Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe now transform UNP to a real UNITED NATIONAL PARTY. All others to set a side differences and work as a united force to ensure that the UNP will emerge victorious in 2013 or 2014.

    galapitamada Saturday, 01 December 2012 10:16 AM

MR and RW together absolute Disaster for the the whole party and the country.

    galapitamada Saturday, 01 December 2012 10:18 AM

And tissa sent pro ranil selective invitees Bravo pole of ranil

    Lankabay Saturday, 01 December 2012 10:51 AM

Ranil will only get to win party elections through his handpicked henchmen. At general or presidential elections, I'm sure he won't even pass 25% of the total votes polled.

Imran Hussein Saturday, 01 December 2012 10:59 AM

It has become a fashion to put RW or the party down everytime they get an oppotunity. Its bloody boring but some still enjoy it.

Game Kolla Saturday, 01 December 2012 11:09 AM

MR could be the happiest man in the world.

SP MAD Saturday, 01 December 2012 08:00 AM

Why do you blame Ranil or the leader.

1st the grass route level and so called MPs must work hard in their areas then you can expect a victory.

Just do not slang mud like some TV chennals who looks for cheap publicity and work according to some others agenda.

Ranil is a good leader, well respected internationally and experienced in politics.

Can you compare Sajith or Karu, who works for their own agenda as Mr. Pramadasa. who broke UNP in 1988 and now same with another.

Think and work hard to win 2014 without just barking like dogs.

    Hardball Sunday, 02 December 2012 02:33 AM

Yes, you got votes from the UNP members whom you selectively invited. You can not do this at the general election elections or presidential election. The grass root supported does not go to the polling booth as long as you are the leader of the UNP. Full stop.

Jagath Leanagej Sunday, 02 December 2012 02:34 AM

Only way to defeat M.R. is asking Chandrika to contest for next Presidential election and split SLFP'ers.Other wise no chance to UNP.

    Fusion Sunday, 02 December 2012 02:40 AM

...and by that logic the current GoSL is very honest, democratic, people friendly etc, etc. You must be on of those hand-picked RW pawns. Sri Lankans really are delusional. We see a very clear pattern. 280,000 votes for WW, 150,000 votes for MS, 230,000 votes for RW even Upeksha Swarnamali got 80,000 votes the last GE. Sri Lankans really are delusional regardless of their political affiliations. Certainly the "MIRACLE OF ASIA"

Prof Wickramatillake Sunday, 02 December 2012 04:20 AM

You are the MOST selfish political leader in the world. You will be worse selfish dictator, than MR, if you get power. You are VERY unfair by the party supporters.

    SL Sunday, 02 December 2012 05:33 AM

For your information today LTTE is not KP Karuna or Pilliyan

    Channa Sunday, 02 December 2012 06:00 AM

Do SRI LANKAN'S vote for internationally respected, intellectual political figures???

    amila Sunday, 02 December 2012 06:27 AM

UNP let's make a world record.Let Ranil be the party leader as well as the opposition leader forever.

    jan Sunday, 02 December 2012 10:39 AM

    Who is the alternative?

Calistus Jayatilleke Sunday, 02 December 2012 10:47 AM

And they lived happily ever after : MR as the life-long President and Ranil as the life-long UNP Leader ( not sure about Leader of Opposition)!

    Nadi Sunday, 02 December 2012 05:58 PM

He can't lecture government about democracy when he fixes every election in his own impotent party. He is either a selfish man or completely lacking in self-awareness.

    dave Saturday, 01 December 2012 05:05 AM

Dear UNPers. It is not matter to count years and bickering over on the issue.
Orgarnize and reorgnize from the grass root level to over throw this government or have very good opposition.

    lankan Saturday, 01 December 2012 05:33 AM

    @Dave, you are very correct

    ahmeer Saturday, 01 December 2012 05:48 AM

    MA Saturday, 01 December 2012 05:49 AM

better to appoint MR for this post also so problem can be simplified.

    aney Saturday, 01 December 2012 05:58 AM

What is needed at this point is leader who does not have to watch his back every year. Now that you have got 6 years get on with the job.

    Ranbanda Saturday, 01 December 2012 05:56 AM

It is a good move to re-build the UNP. Those oppose every move and turn taken by the leadership team of the UNP must think twice. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander.

    Rythem Saturday, 01 December 2012 05:58 AM

Congratulations Ranil! It is a victory for him and yet another lost for UNP.

    Jay Saturday, 01 December 2012 06:17 AM

Could this be the FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN for the UNP? RIP.

anther six year's for government three hart cheers to ranil

    Labby Saturday, 01 December 2012 06:36 AM

Let it be known to Sajith, Karu, Dayasiri, and Buddhika that there are many more voices in the party other than their own. So it's high time they buckle down, fall in line, and work for the party under the largely accepted leadership. They got their chances at the leadership election, didn't they?

    tom Saturday, 01 December 2012 06:40 AM

shah super leader -no worries unpiers even past results show how fit this guy is/But i have a issue party needs him and country dont-then the root is dont send MP's who want ranil to parliment simple as that.
At least dont ranil think him self if he is fit for the job?or even his wife cant she beg and tell for god sake to resign

    Lankabay Saturday, 01 December 2012 06:40 AM

The government is guaranteed another term without any difficulty. It's really a victory for the government. It's not these handpicked cronies who elect the government, but the general public. With Ranil's leadership for another six years, the UNP is doomed.

    Sugath Saturday, 01 December 2012 06:45 AM

unp will be in the opposition forever under Ranil’s Leadership

    Riza Saturday, 01 December 2012 05:02 AM

Victory for govt in this occasion also

    DHA Saturday, 01 December 2012 06:57 AM

    Its Ranil....Ranil all the way......

    Fairose Saturday, 01 December 2012 06:57 AM

Shame on Ranil Wickremasinghe and Tissa Attanayake co. for deciding the leadership of party that consist nearly 5 million members by handful of selected henchmen who have no education or political knowledge at all. These are thugs brought by Mr.Muzammil and party leader. Shame...Shame. If youre are man enough you should have brought all the party supporters who acquire a membership and test your popularity. You know your standing within the grass-root supporters. I am sad for the party because I know the results of the future elections.

    Mohamed Saturday, 01 December 2012 07:05 AM

MR will make sure to have elections to every Body within the next six years and covertly support RW's re-election in six years. The curse to the Nation will not end anytime soon. Subha Anagathayak wewa!

    J.D Saturday, 01 December 2012 07:08 AM

MR will celebrate the victory more than RW........

kondebadapu china Saturday, 01 December 2012 07:13 AM

Anne Dave you must have at least a fraction of brain to think that without a leader for UNP how can others be expected to organize grass root level. This is a tyranny of suppression of democracy by UNP leader. Will you bet with me for One million Rs. that whatever next election UNP will get only less than 2.0 million votes. This is because UNP ers wont have any other option than refrain from voting for this despotic, idiotic leader. In other words today UNP left another land mark in history by stengthening government for another 6 years. Today people of Sri Lanka lost the opposition. Curse will come and divine power will save people

    meenavan Saturday, 01 December 2012 07:15 AM

    another six years....bleak for UNP

Mervin Aiyya Saturday, 01 December 2012 07:17 AM

Absolutely true, the ones who are against with the leader, first must carry out their responsibilities. Who can lead the party if it is not RW?

    unchikun Saturday, 01 December 2012 07:30 AM

Has MR sent a congratulations message ?

    Nodrog Saturday, 01 December 2012 07:35 AM

The spineless one and his equally spineless followers just signed the death warrant for the UNP and the country. We are doomed.

sunil de zoysa Saturday, 01 December 2012 07:47 AM

This is the begining of a new era. Now we all must fully support the leader to concetrate on the big task and decipline rank and file.

Real Peace Saturday, 01 December 2012 07:51 AM

I'm pleasantly surprised by the huge majority. Only Ranil can restore the rule of law, peace and prosperity in the country. Under his leadership our country will achieve a massive economic growth.
