My 26th holiday in this country started off with such a pleasant surprise, using the new motorway from Kottawa to Baddegama. It was like a dream to see the beautiful scenery - still relatively unspoilt. What a contrast to air and traffic polluted Galle Road with so many insane drivers. And the ride was very relaxing, too.
By the way, in the US highways are just normal traffic routes with no extraordinary rules and regulations, like, e.g. the A-roads in Sri Lanka. What you have here is generally called a super highway or expressway in American English. In British English it's a motorway. It is just a question of linguistics. So this info hopefully stops any silly and unnecessary discussions. I can also not see the point of some people being so negative about such a positive step forward in your country's development, and I keep my fingers crossed that more motorways will be built in the near future so that I can explore the country in a more relaxed way than up to date.

yup, you are right, i drive here in australia for few hours over-weekend , about 300-400kms in three- four hours. it is quite fun actually. Sri lankan highway is not a highway it is just a motorway.

Great. Have some more highways out of the money you earn from this.

I used this road on 24th & 26th. Im amazed to see the discipline of the SL drivers. Main reason (may be) no private buses, no 3wheelers & no bikers. So we can drive decently. Good job govt & good job all disciplined users too !!!

Yesterday we came fro Galle to Kottawa .There were many unsuitable vehicles on this road ie Dimmo Battas, Private buses all doors and windows opened going on pilgrimage
etc .Another danger is Dogs /Goats etc on the road .If not for these its a smooth ride
