UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake today confirmed that party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had asked him for a report on the recent statements made by Kurunegala District MP Dayasiri Jayasekera.

Mr. Attanayake told a media conference he had already handed over a report on Mr. Jayaskera to the disciplinary committee.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror Mr. Jayasekara said he was ready to face any disciplinary action and that there was a conspiracy to destroy his political career.
“I have responded to the false news reported about me therefore I am not worried about anything,” he said and added that he was ready to go before a disciplinary committee and explain the real situation. Mr. Jayasekera assured he had no plans to cross over to the government.

All this not because we have a strong government, but we have a weak opposition.

    keith Wednesday, 15 August 2012 10:00 AM

Dear Michael...ranil is a proven failure...18 years and the losses keep mounting..it is patently clear that he cannot unite the party..if he has any love for the party(which i doubt) he should step down now...

You seem to have a very condescending attitude towards ' villagers '. Most Sri Lankans have their roots in villages . Where are you from ?

    manomano Wednesday, 15 August 2012 08:51 AM

Why do you live on this myth. If there was enough freedom & encouragement many including Ravi Thissa or JJ would have shown leadership traits. Instead they have evolved into bogeymen that they are today .

    samosa Wednesday, 15 August 2012 03:25 AM

    very true!

    s.m.Hafeel Tuesday, 14 August 2012 04:12 PM

UNP shuld ask for a report about Ranil first

    silva Tuesday, 14 August 2012 01:28 PM

Michael , it is people like you who have no idea of grass roots politics, who have brought the UNP to this state. Please stick to matters you are familiar with.

    silva Tuesday, 14 August 2012 01:06 PM

Keep dreaming Michael. By the time he wins, there won't be a country left.

    sam Tuesday, 14 August 2012 12:39 PM

Look how can we vote to ranil? Is he a leader?

    Nodrog Tuesday, 14 August 2012 11:03 AM

Ranil should first and foremost get rid of the old fogeys who are well past their political prime and whose future depends on him being leader. They are they ones leading him and the UNP up the garden path.

    Nimal Tuesday, 14 August 2012 10:33 AM

Even at a drop of a hat, explanations are demanded by the High Command. This should stop; if not Sri Kotha will soon be left only with Ranil and Tissa.

    Devaka Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:46 AM

Dear Michael, your hero's shelf life expired long ago.

    Bawa Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:45 AM

UNP can appoint a proffesor for making such report. I am so suprise Ranil so have Dayasiri Resume????

    Minister Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:45 AM

Mr. Wickremesinghe, You are the leader of the party. Why should you call for report about Dayasiri through a third party? Why can't you call Dayasiri straight and ask him what this all about? Be a real leader!

    alex Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:43 AM

as if you have any democracy now

    Munshif Tuesday, 14 August 2012 08:00 AM

Aney Mr. Wickramisghe.... wadinnam!! Don't destroy the party anymore by harassing true UNPers!!

    Anil Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:25 AM

Things were quiet for some time in the UNP. Now that an election is announced things have hotted up. It makes one wonder

    alex Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:43 AM

Don't forget JRJ also took undated resignation letters from all his ministers

The Man Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:03 AM

    y some call village 'idiots'

does that mean, the urban is smart?

Michael Ranasinghe Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:01 AM

It is easier to say to step down and who will take over ??? Sajith realised that taking over a party without having experience being in government is like taking over a ship which has not sailed for a long time. I agree with you totally about having people from colombo trying to appeal to the masses. This is where RW should let go and call upon Sajith and Dayasiri to form TWO teams under their direction to spear head campaigns in different areas. RW's experience is required to ensure that issues pertaining to international matters , parliamentary matters and finance is concerned. These are issues which require statesmanship.

Game Over Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:06 AM

I totally agree with your post on RW. He has shown us his capability during the 2001-3 tenure. However, the village idiot never understood it. But, where I disagree is when you say that others should push him. Like JRJ, he should know to rally popular figures like Sajith and Dayasiri around him and get the villagers around him. What he does is keep people like Jaylath J, Ravi K and Colombo crowd which turns off the villager. Now it's too late - he needs to step down unfortunately.

    Samantha Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:04 AM

JRJ wasnt a authocratic leader in his party He gave freedam to cat as leaders for Mr. Premadasa, Mr.Athulathmudali, Mr. Dissanayake and other seniors of the party JRJ used all seniors and educated organisors for big victory in 1977 IS RW APPLYING THE SAME STRATERGY HERE ???

    Tonto Tuesday, 14 August 2012 09:03 AM

What is all this nonsense of reports and disciplinary action. You clowns are acting like a personnel department in a garment factory. Dayasiri, you don't even have to reply to any of this garbage. Just tear it up and shove it , you know where !

    mac Tuesday, 14 August 2012 08:54 AM

i hv no doubt about his knowledge or skils. however, he is avoiding democracy in his own party. so how can we expect him to be democratic if he take over the goverment?

    Samantha Tuesday, 14 August 2012 08:55 AM

If RW acts as Autocratic leader in his party ….. If he will be elected as a leader of the country Can we expect the democracy from him ?????

Ravi Seneviratne Tuesday, 14 August 2012 08:44 AM

Dayasiri , dont leave the party , fight it out.

Aney Machang Tuesday, 14 August 2012 08:29 AM

Please show your strength at the PC election and not on fellow members of the Party.

Michael Ranasinghe Tuesday, 14 August 2012 08:38 AM

I have worked for Ranil's campaign when he was elected Prime Minister and i know that there is none who could match his knowledge and admin skills. The issue he is facing is that he is not cut out to be one who could get the rural crowd moved. I have read that this was the same situation that prevailed in 1977 when JRJ campaigned. This is why he had a super team of Ranasinghe Premadasa , Lalith Athulathmudali ,Gamini Disanayake and Anandatissa De Alwis who rallied the masses for JRJ . This is what the UNP should do without fighting the leader. Once the party comes into power Ranil knowing the person he is will anyway have the likes of Sajith and Dayasiri as the people to take over after him.

    chanaka Tuesday, 14 August 2012 08:27 AM

Atttanayake mahattayo, First ask for explanation from RANIL for leaking party information to SLFP during presidential Elections
