PS Chairman arrested

The Kalutara Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Lakshman Vidanapathirana who had allegedly solicited a bribe of Rs. 3 million to resolve a land issue in Nagoda, Kalutara was arrested by Bribery Department sleuths this evening.

He is due to be produced in the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court.

Investigations are continuing under the directions of Commission to investigate allegations of Bribery or Corruption Director General Lakshmi Jayawickrama.

According to initial investigations the suspect had solicited the bribe to develop a seven acre land and provide road access to it. The office assistant of the PS Chairman Satan Arachchi was also arrested by the Bribery sleuths. (Sanath Desmond)
