Prince of Wales: Trouble makers warned

The Moratuwa Magistrate has today warned Moratuwa Mayor Saman Lal Fernando and five others not to obstruct the new principal of Prince of Wales College from carrying out his duties.

Among those summoned to Court were the school’s Deputy Principal Subashini Kapurupassa, who was also alleged to have been involved in instigating demonstration against the new principal with the assistance of several parents.

She was warned and released while the Mayor and four others -- School Development Society President Shiran Dilruk, Old Boys Association President Aruna Ramyakumara, parents Asoka Kumarasinghe and Ayeshan S. Ferdinando were each ordered to pay Rs.50,000 and directed to be present in Court on August 5.

During their investigations the police were able to identify those responsible for instigating the demonstrations.

Magistrate W. Aravinda Perera warned that if he received any reports of such obstruction of duty, he would order their arrest. (M.S. Perera and Jehan Gunasekara)
