Video: One million jobs under UNP Govt: Ranil

United National Party (UNP) National Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said today a million job opportunities would be generated under a UNP government within five years by establishing export oriented industries in the country.

“During the Premadasa Government, I was able to set up five industrial zones and 200 garment factories as the Minister of Industries even when in the midst of a war. But this is not happening now other than to send for jobs abroad,” he said.

Mr. Wickremesinghe said what was more important was to establish industries and seek foreign markets to improve our exports rather than developing roads, ports without ships, airports without planes and power stations without power.

“Our focus should be to set up more industries and seek more opportunities to export our products just like China, India and other countries do. We must do our best to target the European market and expand our range of exports without confining ourselves to apparels or traditional products. We have to reduce custom duties or remove them to be more competitive in markets abroad,” Mr. Wickremesinghe said.(Ajith Siriwardana)

From an economic point of view, I am confident a UNP government will deliver on the countries potential. Any joker can do what this government is doing (ie. building highways and roads). Why I say this, is because all this is done on loans, and simply replacing the huge budget previously occupied by defence expenditure with interest to Chinese banks is pretty easy.

Ranil can do it but first must work hard to get the common candidateelected which could follow with Parliamentary electionswhere Ranil could win and become P.M. With wider powers when he can put into action his master plans and succesfullycarry them out.

Is he planning to chase all those Chinese workers and replace them with local labor? Hmmm. not a bad idea at that!

Can he explain how he is going to create one million jobs, when he could not create even 100 jobs when he was in power under Chandrika for two years. He instead pruned down the Government service by not filling thousands of vacancies. His credibility is in doubt.

This is the way to go in to the minds of the people. Finally... I know this is a man with knowledge and ability. He may not the most appealing but this is a good brain who can take this country to a new era. All the best.

Why not we all think of the country and do something positive. What he says is practicable. THIS DEFINITELY IS NOT AN ELECTION PROMISE.

Well said. no doubt that you have a very good vision that will lead this country forward. But please field a common candidate if you ever wish this dream to materialize.

The unfortunate politician has been made useless by the disgruntled members of his own pary inspired by those so-called Maharajas. He deserves an opportunity.

whos going to establish these factories on who will fund them... just like the bracelet need of surangana katha . lets us know how you going to implement those even without infrastructure development

    Don Friday, 07 November 2014 04:43 PM

One brilliant mind. If he says something, he will definitely carry it out. He needs to be given chance to pull the country out of the black hole because of the loans being obtained on high interest rates and corruption.
