NPC elections first, Wayamba and Central PCs later

Sources close to the government informed that elections to the Central and Wayamba provincial councils are likely to be postponed.

The government is planning to hold the Northern Provincial Council elections in early September and to conduct the polls for the Central and Wayamba Provincial councils later in the same month.

However, senior government members had advocated to the President to have the Northern Provincial Council elections in September and the elections for the other two councils to be held later. Accordingly, the NPC elections would be held in early September this year and followed later for the other two councils.

The official announcement by President Mahinda Rajapaksa regarding the holding of Northern Provincial Council elections is expected to be sent to the Elections  Commissioner by the end of next month. (Ajantha Kumara Agalakada)
