Sinhala and Tamil New Year’s Message
On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I offer warmest greetings to the people of Sri Lanka and the vibrant global Sri Lankan diaspora.
This New Year brings a new opportunity for all Sri Lankans to join together in the spirit of tolerance, reconciliation, and peace.  As Sri Lankans gather to mark the potential of the New Year, we join in celebrating with you.
As you continue your work to build a prosperous, democratic Sri Lanka, I offer my best wishes for a safe and happy holiday and a prosperous, peaceful year ahead.

The tamils, and muslims should respect for tolarance and acceptance of Sihalese. Sinhalese should unit and work for themself than depriving minority reights. As majority we are resposible for accelaration of unrest, curption and social liberty..

The US wants India to be politically unstable. The best way is to provoke and support Tamil Nadu to react to anti Tamil sentiments by way of human rights violations and inquiries through the UN on SL. India's central government has finally figured the threat of India and China one day becoming super powers. The US cannot dictate to the Chinese but the gullible Indians did...but not this time...hence abstained from voting..oh btw why did Hilary Clinton visit just Tamil Nadu and not Delhi and meet the PM?.....arhhh...wake up ppl....! via DM iPad app

At least have the courtesy to appreciate when a person wishes for New Year whether it's a friend or an enemy. U.K, U.S.A. and the western countries are working to make Sri Lanka a Democratic Country where all communities will enjoy real freedom which we are lacking now. Our people want to promote tourism while attacking the westerners. What a plight.

No thanks to Kerry for his condescending words. We have been celebrating Sinhala &Tamil NY for hundreds of years, even before his country came into being, so where is he coming from? What sanctimonious rubbish. Absolutely uncalled for.

Thank You! Btw on what basis does the US claim to speak for the global diaspora? Oh I forgot -- you must mean the GTF! via DM Android App

Prejudices and beliefs held over a thousand years will not melt away with in years or decades. We need to look at lessons learnt and the root causes that led to the 30 year conflict. A great example here is the rabid anti Tamil feelings of Sinhalese Buddhist monks. Are they truly the deciplels of Buddha's teachings. This country can not afford to go backwards. Must go forward economically, socially and spiritually. Time marches on.......

    Dear USA,(UK)
More than wising what we need is not to disrupt the harmony we gained against the terrorism. Your post mortem of accountability & human right violations brings more negative results that positive. In fact even now we experience mistrust & hatred than soon after the war. Pl come & get correct picture how people enjoy freedom irrespective of nationality.

All of a sudden Sri Lanka has become one of the most important Countries in the World. So much so, even the US Secretary of State is issuing Sinhala/Hindu New Year messages....This was never heard during 30 years of war..

    sootikka Saturday, 12 April 2014 03:20 PM

No, it is not thanks to the USA or any other country: The LTTE came about because the Sinhalese, the Tamils and the Muslims cannot figure out how to live with each other peacefully.

    Peter66 Saturday, 12 April 2014 09:25 AM

It has just started once again....!!! LTTE is looking raise its ugly head...thanks to USA & UK....!!!
