Opposition UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today alleged that there was a move to arrest  retired High Court Judge W.T.M.P.B. Warawewa soon. Addressing an election rally in Kantale Mr. Wickremesinghe said Mr. Warawewa was to be taken in by the CID on a statement he had made on the education sector in the country.

Mr. Wickremesinghe said he appointed Warawewa to head a committee to study and prepare a national education charter and the latter had made some remarks on the education sector at one of the meetings held at the Parliamentary complex organised by the joint opposition.

“ Is it a crime to work for the betterment of the education sector irrespective of politics?,” he asked.

Referring to the government’s pledge to make members of the civil defence force permanent, Mr. Wickremesinghe said the UNP first made this suggestion in 2008 and the UPFA government turned a blind eye on it. “ The government was making false promises now just to attract votes,” he added. Why, if my memory serves me right, the infamous ' White
Paper ' was his brain child, Sim.

Look at this comment. 'THIS' is the Regime today.

Third class people are anyway not interested in people in the calibre of Judge Warawewa & RW.
Some even find excuses in blaming UNP & RW still to white wash this catosrophic policies, as we stil after 60 years blaming the suddhas to cover our ignorance and negligence.

The country is crying out for a credible and effective opposition. Ranil is a charisma free-zone who is too insipid to lead his party let alone the country. He just goes around stirring up apathy. .

Nicky! you are living in a dream world .Can you compare the
"rule of law" of a vibrant democracy such as USA to a non-democratic country where the "rule of law' is decimated
to zero level and the constitution has paved way for dictatorship and the rulers are one family and close friends.

matara man Monday, 03 September 2012 03:16 AM

Let Dayasir to speak and Warawewa to advice you

nicky karunarathna Saturday, 01 September 2012 02:50 AM

Judge or any high government official should be arrested if he breach the classified documents and secret odinance. It is happening in US and other countries and there should be no difference in SL. If he has done wrong get the guy behind bars soon as possible and keep him in custody at least 5 years without trial just like in US.

Sudu Akka Saturday, 01 September 2012 03:02 AM

Warawewa or ...? Another do called saviour of SriLanka has come out after retirement and after enjoying all the luxury trappings of his Office as a Judge. His grudge is that he was not given an ambassadoral post after retirement. Where was this bloke when the Tigers were demolishing this country? He now comes after the woodwork after Mahinda and Gota rid the country of terrorism to preach democracy to the SriLankans.

    Malcolm Saturday, 01 September 2012 03:11 AM

    Warawewa stood for hus principles.

sunila mendis Saturday, 01 September 2012 03:46 AM

The only thing the govt can do to suppress dissent is to arrest them and harrass them. This was done to Fonseka but he came out stronger than what he was.Now people who stand by their principles like Justice Warawewa, Dr Nirmal Ranjith. Dr Mahim Mendis etc will be targetted. These same methods have been used by dictatorial Regimes of Mubarak, Gaddafi and presently by Assad of Syria. Yet they were unable to tide over peopl's movements. In Sri lanka tsunami size people's movements will come slowly and surely.

Citizen Perera Saturday, 01 September 2012 04:20 AM

Freedom of speech... is it a punishable offense?

    Nero Friday, 31 August 2012 06:22 PM

You are alway appointing committees. We do not hear any thing after that. You may have to appoint one after the current provincial elections and give the people the results of the findings. Then tackle the education mess.

    CHANDRAPALA Saturday, 01 September 2012 04:51 AM

Retired High Court judge Warawewa has shown his dignity to the country by giving a fair judgement against General. He has done his job properly without bending his knee before the ruling party politicians for perk and other benefits unlike his fellow members. If we had an Independent Judicial Service Commission surely, his service could have been extended. I regret over some bad remarks made by some of our readers regarding this issue.

    Sando Saturday, 01 September 2012 05:41 AM

Ranil did the same to General Fonseka and now Judge Warawewa. Mr. Warawewa please dont assosciate with Ranil

    surain Saturday, 01 September 2012 06:34 AM

Nicky & Sudu Akka both together are washing dirty linen. wash more. This may be one and same person with two different name. this shows the sinking rate of the government

    renu Saturday, 01 September 2012 06:27 AM

It will be like in Pakistan when Judges were taken into custody, The Dooms day is near By

    das Saturday, 01 September 2012 06:48 AM

Ranil is a great leader we have... make him the president and we all are winners !

    richardson Saturday, 01 September 2012 07:28 AM

You should be arrested first for poor leadership of the U N P

David Jones Saturday, 01 September 2012 07:43 AM

just because yr neibhour raped somebody, does it make it OK for you to do it too?

    Shameful!

    Sim Saturday, 01 September 2012 08:00 AM

What did Ranil do when he was the Minister of Education & Youth Affairs?
