With fears of an increase in violence prior to the upcoming General elections, polls monitoring bodies have urged political party leaders to arrest the trend with clashes among supporters of the same political party among the contributing factors of the rise in incidents.

According to the election monitoring bodies, PAFFREL and CMEV, over 50 percent of pre-election violence reported so far has been among supporters of the same political party or group contesting the elections next month.

Meanwhile DIG elections Gamini Navaratna said that 66 incidents related to pre-election violence has been reported so far of which 35 percent were incidents among supporters of the same political party. (Daily Mirror online)
