The National Gem and Jewelry Authority (NGJA) is to tap heavy and bigger gem stones through deep mining called Primary Insitu Deposit for Sapphire Mining (PISM) which is a new vista in gem mining in Sri Lanka, Environment Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said today. (SAJ)

Deep mining. Just saw the 33 mines miraculously rescued in Chile. Can Sri Lanka handle such emergencies? The hole at Galle Road, Dehiwala is there for the last two years.
