Sri Lanka’s champion fast bowler said after the mistreatment by Sri Lankan Cricket he realised that he had onlyhimself to depend on.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Mirror online Malinga- regarded as one of the world’s most dangerous bowlers said, “The chairman of the committee at the time was ArjunaRanatunga and I can’t really think why they treated me that way. At that point I knew that at the end of the day I will have to look after myself and no one would be on my side.”

During the interview Malinga responded to the repeated criticism that he gave priority to the IPL over Sri Lanka cricket, the issue surrounding his contract, his defiant stand on not playing test cricket and about the new addition to his family. (HafeelFarisz and Shehan Daniel)

Everyone needs money including those so called patriots..

    Nihal D Monday, 20 August 2012 01:29 PM

No worries Malinge I'll stand by you, why don't you start a club called "Fire power bowling"

    silva Monday, 20 August 2012 01:30 PM

Well said mate. Some people are so envious ......

    saman Monday, 20 August 2012 04:04 PM

Now only malinga realized that he is a srilankan otherwise he was an Indian

    Bagalawathie Monday, 20 August 2012 10:02 PM

Malinga, you are a true son of the soil of Lanka. God bless you.

    smarty Monday, 20 August 2012 11:33 PM

True, and he is the most indiciplined cricketer in the Lankan team - he now seems to be using his ablility to get sympathy.

Janaki Kalansuriya Tuesday, 21 August 2012 12:44 AM

Well said Lasith. I know exactly how you feel. My child (national asset by standards of other countries) was also given third class treatment. At least you still continue your fight unlike my children, who just couldn't.

    helaya Tuesday, 21 August 2012 12:57 AM

Well Done Malinga. Don't think about jellous people barking at you. You are on your own when you are down and you are right. you are the one of the greatest bowlers in the world and keep going.

    senavi Tuesday, 21 August 2012 12:47 AM

may be, but also read the Mangala sutta. I think the 20th blessing talk about gratitude

    Nalin Monday, 20 August 2012 01:37 PM

There are enough and more bowling techniques and there are yet more new techniques to innovate. Malinga or anybody could come out with any new technique. They are constantly been updated in spin bowling. I hope Malinga's knee would recover and keep bowling for a long time.

    rasika Tuesday, 21 August 2012 04:07 AM

Yes exactly what happened to your yorkers, slow bounces against Indian

    Islander Tuesday, 21 August 2012 04:20 AM

Very good man. Don't go behind these politicians and demean yourself. You have the capability and under whatever circumstances your "lustre" will not be lost. You will be always recognised unlike those whose "lust" for recognition at whatever cost!!

    mjm Tuesday, 21 August 2012 05:17 AM

    we forgot Chaminda Vaas.

    Smarty Tuesday, 21 August 2012 06:20 AM

Yes but Lasith should also not forget his beginings and ingratitude is not a nice thing..........no man is indispensible, there are more Malinga's down the line who will be ever ready fit in his boots.

    Tilak Tuesday, 21 August 2012 06:43 AM

You areperfectly right on your words.

    lee Tuesday, 21 August 2012 07:38 AM

A poor, honest, down to earth gentleman being attacked by mindless nationalists.... if these hypocrites are as patriot as they claim to be this country will be a much better place to live. Down with militant nationalism. If they have any problem with any one let them start with all those graduates who are lining up for foreign passports. I'm sure every single one of these patriots will have at least one relative in their family who is in this category.

    palitha Tuesday, 21 August 2012 08:48 AM

Nobody forget Arjuna & Aravinda if they have some fault.

    Nero Monday, 20 August 2012 05:38 AM

Seen the end of the road, Ah.

    GenerationY Monday, 20 August 2012 12:10 PM

is it really that difficult to believe that the India team is better than SL's and they actually beat us fair and square?!
Malinga's mystery was unravelled many years ago. And on dead sub cont pitches, without an older ball to reverse swing (since there are now 2 new balls in each innings), Mali's threat is diminished.

    Tuan Monday, 20 August 2012 11:39 AM

Like all politicans non of them are loyal.Even the cricketers dont mind loose matches to Indians and keep them happy.Cricket fans are just wasting money to watch these idiots play and thanks of late the crowd to cricket matches has dwindle.

    SudhuPancha Monday, 20 August 2012 11:01 AM

u cant blame him!!!!!!!!!!!! cos the sl politicians do the same thing on a amassive scale!!!!!!

    Saum Monday, 20 August 2012 10:35 AM

These players bought so much of honor and fame for the country and also bought millions of $$ to the country...In the country that I live evefybody knows Sri Lanka because of cricket.Do u know how much is the revenue for Sri Lanka when an international team tours here we get ? Last Ind SL test series boughts us 16 million US $ ! All the luxuries they accumilated are by their sheer talent and dedication not from your money !

general man Monday, 20 August 2012 10:27 AM

you are a sri lankan, sri lanka its you country. its your prime duty to give the best and the priority to the country.
If our brave forces think the same way ,where are we, we may not have Sri Lanka for you to perform ,play and earn your living.

    kingasanga Monday, 20 August 2012 08:29 AM

See what Arjuna can do to cricket. Arjuna destroyed memorable cricketer Arjuna.

    paulraj Monday, 20 August 2012 08:11 AM

after all u have to repay the country for all he luxuries u accumulated with d tax payers money,,nadda?...

    Himal Monday, 20 August 2012 07:12 AM

Hey,Cricket is not like a profit and loss business. What happened to Ajantha Mendis? At the beginning Indians could not understand him at all. Now he's never included for matches against India. They figured his bowling. Malinga on the other hand is getting wickets still.Only problem that I see is that he is the only bowler in SL team who is capable of taking Indian wickets. Remember world cup final? He took both Sewag and Tendulkar cheaply and then there was nobody to take the other wickets.

    lalith Monday, 20 August 2012 07:18 AM

slc wants to use malinga like bcci uses sachin.... they just want to profit off his ability.....

    Suny J Monday, 20 August 2012 07:00 AM

    Money talks ....????

    Abilashan Monday, 20 August 2012 06:09 AM

SLC doesnt realize the worth of the players, they all suffer once its gone only and apologize for it.

    Premalal Monday, 20 August 2012 06:17 AM

Well done Lasith you are a great guy. You don't have to apologise to any one for playing in the IPL and making the decision to prolong your career. After all it is your talent and you are making an honest living. We see how our so called patriotic rulers (including SLC officials) make their living.

Good luck to you son. All right thinking (vast majority) Sri-Lankans are proud of you

    lk Monday, 20 August 2012 06:26 AM

so how do you explain not performing well against India?

    Josh Monday, 20 August 2012 05:57 AM

exactly why he is still playing for the country aftr all the mistreatment he has got... Malinga is yet another Marvan Attapattu case...

    Nodrog Monday, 20 August 2012 05:22 AM

Well said Lasith. But remember it's not the country that let you down, just the jokers at SLC!
