Maharoof released on bail

Former UNP parliamentarian Mohamad Maharoof was released on a personal bail of Rs. 1.5 million by the Colombo Court today after he was arrested for Criminal Breach of trust after cheques worth Rs. 1.5 million issued by him bounced back.

Mr. Maharoof was released on a personal bail of Rs. 1.5 million and two sureties, while he was told to repay the plaintiffs amount of Rs. 1.5 million, in five installments.

The passport of Maharoof was also retained by the Court, while the case will be heard again on the 8th of February. (TFT)

Cheque value and personal bail value same. In which case he should have settled the defaulted amount rather than facing courts order, to safe guard his reputation!
