‘Madras Café’ banned in Tamil Nadu today
John Abraham starrer and Soojit Sarkar’s directed ‘Madras Cafeé’ faces the heat of the Tamil Nadu students, activists and political parties. The film will see the light of the day today in every part of India except Tamil Nadu. The film is banned in Tamil Nadu for showing the LTTE group in bad light.The spy thriller would not be screened in the state, reported by a spokesperson of the Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors Association told PTI tonight.
"The film will not be released in Tamil Nadu," was the mysterious remark by the spokesperson. The decision has been unanimously taken by the several pro-Tamil groups and political parties, including BJP. The film shows John playing a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent in Sri Lanka during the war between the island government and LTTE in late 1980s and early 90s.
The pro-Tamil group demanded delete of some objectionable scenes but the leading actor of the film John refused to do so. He claimed that if censor board has not objection in any scene of the film then why should he delete those scenes.
In a statement in Mumbai yesterday, he said, "I would like to urge all of Chennai to support 'Madras Cafe' as a film and allow it to release (as per schedule). It is a credible film made with a lot of heart and gives audiences something novel to be entertained about, vouching and encouraging cinema."
Despite, arranging a special screening of the film for the protesters by John Abraham their fury did not die down and they continued their protest against the screening of the film. Theatres owners could predict the faith of the film beforehand in Tamil Nadu and hence they did not open for advance booking.
‘Madras Café’ is the third film in a row to face a ban in Tamil Nadu this year. Earlier, Kamal Hassan’s ‘Vishwaroopam’ and Vijay’s 'Thalaivaa' were objected to be released in the state. (Source: Bollywood Mantra)
