Liquor prices up

The Excise Department has increased the prices of foreign and local liquor with effect from October 10, the department announced today.

Accordingly, the price of an arrack proof litre has been increased by Rs. 90, foreign liquor proof litre by Rs. 120 while Beer (alcohol volume over 5%) by Rs.15 and (alcohol volume less than 5%) by Rs. 10.

The truth is the government reduces the cost of LP gas, petrol and electricity and raises the tax on cigarettes and alcohol in order to pay off the loans to foreign entities. There might be electoral motives as well.
