Lanka offers war advice

19 May 2010 12:54 pm - 44     - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}

Sri Lanka has offered India its expertise in defeating the LTTE to help fight the Naxals. Sri Lanka has said its armed forces could train Indian paramilitary personnel to successfully fight the Naxals. The offer was recently conveyed by Lankan High Commissioner Prasad Kariyavasam to National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon.

Sources told Headlines Today that the assistance was offered only for the areas where Naxals have made their presence felt and covered all aspects of training. It is not clear how the Indian government responded to the offer.

The Lankan army's expertise in small-team operations paid off during its war against the LTTE. The use of UAV imagery by the air force also helped. After their victory against the LTTE last year, the Lankan forces are probably the most combat hardened in the world in fighting large-sized guerilla outfits like the Naxalites.  (Headlines Today)

This is poetic justice: India created the problem for us and now appears to be in need of our help, to fight a similar problem.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 12:19 AM

Who is the man capable of advising the Indians on how to defeat the Naxals? Non other than General Sarath Fonseka, the true hero of this country.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 01:15 AM

Country claims to be having the best school of Buddhism. with a majority of Buddhists offering WAR advice. I guess it should have been the PEACE we could offer. I do not get it.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 02:48 AM

Shame on India to listen to all this advice. What purpose would India have with it,its the 4th largest Army in the world????

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 03:08 AM

Is this some sympathy act or to be a good-neighbour in the eyes of the world?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 03:10 AM

Gen Fonseka once said that the Indian politicians are jokers, now that has come true.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 03:16 AM

Authorities must act cautiously and prudently in offering support openly as Sri Lanka can draw new enimies from foreign lands who can resort to terrorist attacks against our interests/persons at a time we are just settling down to concentrate on our neglected development activities in order to bring relief to suffering people.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 04:31 AM

Wow!. Why not?It is a privilege for India to have its army trained by the best army in the world.Advice of SL army is the best for counter terrorism activities anywhere in the world.

We are ready to help our big brother India.

    You are welcome

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 04:46 AM

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 05:01 AM

Indians created Naxals & the LTTE though we finished the LTTE i don't think the Indians want to finish the Naxals...!!!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 05:03 AM

The last thing you want is another terrorists group forming in Sri lanka with the help of Naxals.....!!!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 05:23 AM

During the last years of the war, the LTTE had a very depleted force numbering less than 2500 due to poor recruitment and injuries, arms and ammunition was absolutely impossible to find due to countries clamping on terrorism after 9-11 and further more Karuna squealed. In comparison the GOSL had state support from India and China to improve and increase weaponry while many other countries provided tacit support while increasing its armed forces to more than 350,000.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 05:30 AM

So India wont use force on its people, however its happy to support other governments that use force on its own citizens including human right abuse?? Welcome to the world of hypocrisy!!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 05:35 AM

Prudence is the last thing we can expect from the authorities. Check out their track record. Our policies lean more towards the 'bull in a chinashop'

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 02:30 PM

It tool 3 decades and allegation of war crime and genocide for us to finish LTTE. We may be expert in committing war crime..So what we can offer to India?

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 02:42 PM

Sri Lankan formula is very simple. Kill everybody in the area with all forms of arms available.

Really? I beg to differ. We've been 'selling out' for a long time ... more so behind this illusion of patriotism.
