There is no trace yet of missing Lanka E News journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda and foreign missions in Colombo have been notified on the latest developments. Eknaligoda was reported missing on January 24.

“The Police say they have not finished their investigations yet and they recently questioned the family”, the journalist’s wife Sandya Eknaligoda said.

Meanwhile Free Media Movement Secretary Sunil Jayasekara charged that the Police and the government were not doing their best to locate the whereabouts of Mr. Eknaligoda.

“We have asked the international community to pressurize the government about this, but there has been no response”, he said.

However, he said main foreign embassies had been notified and that they were keeping an eye on the issue and are willing to give their support if needed.

Prageeth Eknaligoda, who was last seen on January, 24 , went missing on his way home from work on the same date. When a colleague who called Mr. Eknaligoda last on that day, he had overheard him tell the person he was traveling with that they were going in the wrong direction.

You are right, De Silva. Our people are not interested in "in depth" news, they are more than happy watching/listening to the garbage news dished out by the Government media. So in such circumstances, this sort of journalists are a spent force in this country.

    thats rich ain't it. lol

Best way to earn a living for scribe is to go hiding for two weeks and ask foreign mission to intervene in getting migration visas.
Sri Lankan scribes are good street actors than good writers.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 04:34 PM

After cheap publicity drama for migration visa, he will return home and he will tell blind foldedly he was dropped out of a white van. Ha! ha! ha!

Await for this joke from a pen and key board handling joker!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 04:47 PM

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 04:55 PM

" Suba Anagathayak" for all jurnalists and medias in the country.............!! Some fools yet to understand incoming storm for media as well as the country..

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 05:38 PM

May SF fans have more wisdom!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 06:06 PM

The international community should intervene, immediately!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 06:28 PM

He went 'kade' for SF! Don't worry he'll be back when the time is right for him.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 10:36 PM

Dilan, do not be silly - a human being is missing!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 10:37 PM

Probably, this gentleman has already left the country, using a fake passport, under some other name.

    Friday, 05 February 2010 12:24 AM

I personally think Sri Lankans do not appreciate the work that journalists are doing: risking their lives, in order to uphold our right to information!

    Friday, 05 February 2010 05:24 AM

Unfortunately most of the media including e-news work for one party or the other. Therefore nothing much to apreciate.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 04:23 PM

How does he become a journalist? He is just writing for a web site. Web sites are not mass mdia. For example i have a web site and Iam a blogger. If some one come to me tommorrow and hit me due to some thng i posted on the web site is it aonted to a threat to media. Can I asked asylum in a western country?

    Friday, 05 February 2010 06:50 AM

Is Prageeth a journalist????????? just writing whatever comes to his mind doesnt create a journalist...

    Friday, 05 February 2010 06:53 AM

Nothing to worry. It's just a self missing mission. Now he may be safely has fly to some other country like Norway. There are lot of this type of stories found in police books where they were found safe. Most of them has gone abroad and wife of some other one put a police entry saying that he is missing.

    Friday, 05 February 2010 06:54 AM

Risking for what ??? Totally manipulated stories, Yes, that's a risky job !!!

    Friday, 05 February 2010 06:57 AM

Now most of this type of dramas are revealing. One at Nawalapitiya monk's death. It's done by JVP supporters for what ever the reason. But the blame goes to the government. Now the truth has revealed. Most of the stories are same.

    Friday, 05 February 2010 07:29 AM

Pls., don’t call this type of ppl as journalist; it is disgrace for the noble profession

    Friday, 05 February 2010 07:34 AM

whoever voted against me hasn't understood what i said above.. i meant that's a good lie for the comment that said "cid says family dispute"

    Friday, 05 February 2010 07:42 AM

I guess you are over-estimating the intelligence of the Royal Family!

    Friday, 05 February 2010 09:12 AM

    Friday, 05 February 2010 09:39 AM

ha ha may be Lasantha is hiding somewhere too????

    Friday, 05 February 2010 12:56 PM

100% true. I have seen the drama via Sirasa TV. These are all slogans for idiots only.

    Friday, 05 February 2010 03:34 PM

Ask the WHITE VAN OPERATORS, THEY WILL GIVE SOME CLUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Monday, 08 February 2010 01:01 AM

I won't be surprised when he comes out of his own kidnapping to embarrass Dr. Mahinda Rajapakse Government.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:48 PM

This is a warning to all media personnel.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:05 PM

Yapa said,no any threat to media. He don't know Prageeth Eknaligoda missing.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:06 PM

The question should be posed to the so called DESHA_PREMI clan

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:08 PM

    Better future for media personnel

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:53 PM

Wrong direction is not only for the Prageeth, but also for the country..

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:10 PM

Come on Mr. Anura Yapa, did we hear you say something?

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:15 PM

    Where is CID.....justice.....??

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:21 PM

Anura Yapa only sees/hears what he wants to see/hear!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:22 PM

Read the articles he wrote for Lankaenews...
Then anybody can understand who is behind this...?

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:24 PM

ha ha This guy was missing since the day before election day. If the gov wanted to silent him, Why they didnt kidnap him atleast a week before the election? What is the gain they get by hiding him in the last minute?

when his wife went to police to make a complain. The TV Fonseka was there to report it. Just after few hrs a gang of journalists quickly organized a press conference to blame the gov about this. ha ha well planed but Sri Lankans are not fools as NGOs think.

Now he cant come out from the place he was hiding as Police may be in alert to question him about the real drama.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:35 PM

This should not happen in a democracy. People should be able to voice their opinion and then its left to the person concerned give his comment.
Taking people into custody without any information to their kith & kin/employer does not look good in the wider world. There should be some form of regulation where people adhere to it.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:38 PM

I appeal to the Kidnappers, whoever they are, to release this innocent man in the name of HUMANITY. Anyone's heart should melt when they saw his young kids pleading for the release. This is simply "unmerciful, heartless and inhuman"!!!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:42 PM

CID says it's a Family Dispute...!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:02 PM

One wouldnt be surprised if the government comes up with the theory that the journalist has staged his kidnapping to embarrass it.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:55 PM

I have a simple question; what has a missing journalist has to do with "foreign" embassies? How many people get "missing" in the world today, and how many "foreign" missions are doing the police work? Our country is a sovereign one, so why the "foreign": intervention is needed?

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:57 PM

Give him the freedom on this special day of independence
Thanks to destroy terrorisme. Now the time to eradicate all sort of terror (Govt blessed)

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:58 PM

Yes the dispute with Rajapaksa family ! why not CID question the concern

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 02:16 PM

ask any srilankan police officer what stand for P.O.L.I.I.C.E. Answewr is no.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 02:24 PM

We call it democracy. Deyyo saakki.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 03:04 PM

    This regime lives in denial!!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 03:13 PM

We can only have hope and pray to God. I think, Gods have
left the country too. Lord Katharagama had left atleast three
years ago. Lord Jesus must be helpless in this lawless country. What to do? Still, we pray for the family. Have hope and courage for Gods to re-appear.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 03:36 PM

This is the fate of any journalist who dares to use his pen against this president & GOSL. where is srilanka going /
Tho the war is over is this the degree of peace that we have to enjoy ?

I pray for this brave man & his family.i hope he has come to no harm

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 03:47 PM

Better check the 3rd floor of the Cinemon Lake hotel in Colombo.

Better check 3rd floor of the Cinemon Lake Hotel

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 04:18 PM

Another drama from greedy scribes for migration to green pastures.
All these scribes ultimate objective is migration with their families to a well develop country.
Embassies and high commissions, please be aware of the current trend of benefit driven Sri Lankan media people.
