Isn't there a code of conduct for Buddhist monks and what is the role of the Prelate if he is asking the politicians to control his monks. There is nothing worst than to see a Buddhist monk who preaches compassion and ahimsa of Lord Buddha acts like a normal lay person. To add to insult, the Prelate don't have any control over them.

Most Venerable Swaminwahansa, Really appreciate and admire your wise and straightforward utterances. We are fed up with those robe bearers who are engaged in street-fighting with police and fellow citizens. They do not possess any quality to be called as a Bhikkhu and should be encouraged to leave robes and engage in those activities (which are not suitable even for householders).

The monks should be screened as to their eligibility and real purposes before their acceptance as a monk. It has been very much apparent that why so many thugs want to become monks and ten years down the line they shift into a family life. I don’t think anyone has a problem with that however doing or attempt to do all these dishonest acts whilst in the frame of these spiritual ropes is the biggest issue here. The monks have to be an example for the society and not bringing the discredit to the religion or the country. We Buddhist shame to have these kind of monks oops.. I meant to say “hooligans” in our temples.

I agree with the point that religious leaders should keep away from influencing politics and governance. The cause of all ills of this country since independence began with the interference in politics by buddhists monks, the act of which buddha himself would have objected. Religion is a private matter that helps one's search in finding the everlasting timeless 'self' or 'athma' within. Politicians will try to exploite all avenues to come to power, but religious seekers or monks should desist from encouraging them, instead help these politicians achieve enlightenment and understanding that all living beings are 'one' and from the same unity. Any religion or religious monk or seeker who fails in this duty fails humanity.

Actually monks should keep out of politics - You know the harm
JHU has done. Did they do anything they promised. What happend to the inquire into the death of Ven Soma Hamuduruwa and the conversion act. They just keep quiet and as far as I know building mansions. Ven Ellawala Medhalankara was not able to go with the others. That is why Ven monk resigned. As Ven monk recently mentioned at a discussion, all Nikaya Mahanayakas should prohibit monks entering politics at all. Without doing that issuing statements will not help.

Well said and hope it will be implemented. Politics and religion, both very controvesial subjects, cannot and should not be combined. Buddhist Priest should endeavor to maintain their respect and dabbling in politics is not the way to do it.

It is rightly said that monks should refrain from joining active politics for any cost. But I can't understand why Venerable thera said that he can't asked monks to refrain from politics. He is one of the leading Mahayanakas. If all Mahayanakas come forward with sincereity, it is not difficult job to do. If they can't do it, then what is the use of Sangha sabha and electing Mahayanakas if they have no control over the sangha affairs.

Well said.I hope the monks listen to Asgiri mahnayaka and give up taking part in political activities and lose their dignity and respect among the people.There is no difference between them and the ordinary people. Few of them are spreading hatred and intolarence against other religeon.Please let everyone practice their respective religeon freely without fear.We need more priest of Asgiri mahanayaka calibre.

Thank you Most ven Mahanayakka,why don't you suggest this good proposal to other two chapters and include in our nations constitution.It is shame for Lord Buddha's preachings ,buddhism,and to our country.Please understand the instances where the international community interfear in our bussiness.The human right should be preserved.It may be - Sarath fonseka to day,and Hon President tomorrow and
even you day after tomorrow.So in our present constitution only international interfearence can help us to safe our fundemental rights.

monks should retain to theie barraks and spred the dhamma to the buddhidt and not to do politcs and take the role of the thugs (polititians ) be in the parliments atleast they observe their law of buddhisme cofined to the temples or their ashrams try to arrive in their jhanas like good monks after which they could give advice to the buddhists
