Democratic National Alliance Leader Sarath Fonseka said today that the recent flash floods in Colombo and Gampaha was due to the incorrectly-built jogging tracks and parks.
“The jogging tracks and parks built by the authorities are not up to proper standards and were built without knowledge on the requirements of such infrastructure. The Katunayake-Colombo Expressway was also a reason for flash floods in Gampaha as it is not built up to accepted standards,” he said.
Mr. Fonseka said the DNA would join with Trade Unions and other parties in the protest march on May 15 against the electricity tariffs hike and requested everyone to join it.
When asked about party’s opinion on Queen Elizabeth II abstaining from visiting to Sri Lanka for the CHOGM, he said, the reason for not attending might be that the UK was not approving the system of governance in this country. (Sanath Desmond and Lahiru Pothmulla)
