The Department of Metrology said today the cold weather conditions in the country would continue and increase in January.

The department stated that these conditions were caused by a disturbance in the atmosphere with an increase in the cloud cover, which had reduced the temperature by about two degrees.

Meanwhile the Meteorological Department said heavy showers which may turn into thunder storms were also to be expected because of a disturbance over the South Eastern seas.

Areas coming within the Southern, Eastern and the Uva provinces may be the most affected areas. (Yohan Perera)
