The Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) today called on the examinations commissioner to cancel yesterday's scholarship exam with immediate effect and hold a fresh examination.

Speaking at a media breifing today, CTU urged for a fresh examination, following reports of a possible leak in yesterday's scholarship examination paper. Examinations Commissioner W. M. J. Pushpakumara speaking to Daily Mirror said he has handed over the complaints to the CID to conduct an investigation on the matter and added an internal inquiry has also been initiated. Disheartening to the hard working students!!!!!

    ACA Monday, 27 August 2012 05:44 PM

To be efficient and manageable, they should have distributed papers to all children before the exam.

    Light Tuesday, 28 August 2012 12:45 AM

If you don't know the subject please shut up your mouth and keep quiet.

    Gayan Tuesday, 28 August 2012 01:32 AM

, having kids retake an milestone exam is ruins there mindset.

    Chaminda Tuesday, 28 August 2012 01:52 AM

    Disgusting to say the least!!!

    Heenbanda Tuesday, 28 August 2012 03:32 AM

As the common practice in the country now a days, holding exam should be given to military. Then there won't be any leakage. If such a thing happens culprit can be court martial led. We can save money too by doing this. This seems to be the solution for every problem in our country. Even universities can be open by giving the appointment of lecturers to military personnel. That is how we can achieve the state of 'Asiyawe Ascharya' .

    Gayan Monday, 27 August 2012 02:46 PM

I smell politics behind this antic

Andrew Pitugala Tuesday, 28 August 2012 04:53 AM

Can this Government do anything right. No, they can't as they don't have any people of integrity and qualifications at the helm of affairs. Sadly, the Opposition is so disintegrated that they cannot do anything better. Paradise lost.

IF FOUND GUILTY & CORRUPTIONS IN THIS YEAR FIVE SCHOLARSHIP EXAM BEST THING IS TO CANCEL AND KEEP THIS SCHOLARSHIP EXAM IN GRADE 8.

Sapumal Bandara Tuesday, 28 August 2012 06:14 AM

Wimal, are you nuts? You are encouraging corruption and cheating at examinations.

Sapumal Bandara Tuesday, 28 August 2012 06:21 AM

Politics or not, it just boils down to the fact that our Department of Examinations is not capable of holding exams without flaws.
Why penalize the innocent Grade 5 students and their parents, for no fault of theirs.

    Prasanna Tuesday, 28 August 2012 06:21 AM

    Idiots should not comment !!!

Dont show your poor knowledge by commenting in public!!

    Ameer Tuesday, 28 August 2012 06:44 AM

What a shame. playing with kids. leaking the paper is examination departments fault . not the kids. again go for a exam is not a good idea. department made the mistake and punished the kids. what a deal??????????

    K.P.P.RIZVI Tuesday, 28 August 2012 07:17 AM

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO KIDS.PLEASE DON'T DISTROY KIDS MIND.AND PLEASE DON'T PLAY WITH KIDS.

    H. Priya Tuesday, 28 August 2012 07:39 AM

Cancel and keep the exam again? All you people didn't think a bit about the small kids affected. Thousands of kids who have done the exam with great effort, who has just lifted the exam burden from their heads, what about them?
What's more. this is not an exam like A/Ls. This is to give better schools and financial assistance to poor students. So why does it to be held again. Find the culprits, funish them, BUT NOT THE INNOCENT CHILDREN.

    siva Tuesday, 28 August 2012 08:00 AM

I am also agreeable with the comments made by Mr.Upalakshitha karunar.our kids should not be punished for some other culprits

    siva Tuesday, 28 August 2012 08:04 AM

Examination mafia spreading to the lowest levels of education. Oh my sweet childhood !!!

    katie Monday, 27 August 2012 07:17 AM

This is what happens when a tuition master is given the post of Education Minister when there are more qualified persons in this country.

    Ranil Monday, 27 August 2012 07:12 AM

Do not play political agendas with the future of kids. If there was a leakage, teachers are also responsible.

    Incroyable! Monday, 27 August 2012 07:26 AM

Oh my goodness!!!! My grand-daughter took the exam yesterday--after hours and hours of extra prep (another matter) and now this?

Rubert Vanderkoon Monday, 27 August 2012 08:05 AM

Exam paper are always leaked. But the Union doesn't have to cry foul to score points, whenever there was a leak, the exams were cancelled and re-scheduled. That's the usual practice. With our greedy educators, there is no chance we could hold exams without a leak.

    anura Monday, 27 August 2012 08:04 AM

This is what do you called real "asiyawe ashcharyaya".

    Siripala Monday, 27 August 2012 08:22 AM

More depressing news ... as if we aren't all depressed enough already.
With clowns like this, you don't need idiots.

Sapumal Bandara Monday, 27 August 2012 09:22 AM

    This is not a joke.
The Education Authorities are playing with the future of Grade 5 children - the future of our NATION. Therefore those found responsible for this lapse should be severely dealt with.

    SL Monday, 27 August 2012 09:03 AM

how can these kids go and sit on an exam again?
Can they bear a such pressure again.?

In SL,90% gvt officials are currupted and senceless.

    Dunya Monday, 27 August 2012 09:07 AM

My Sister prepared her Son by sending him all the Seminars and Classes until the poor boy was exhausted (despite him attending a very good school)
I don't know how they will feel now.

    rose Monday, 27 August 2012 09:12 AM

I can't understand what is happening to our free education. We all are know the pressure of the any exam so Please do not play games with children.

Die Agent Monday, 27 August 2012 09:19 AM

There is no need to conduct the exam again. there is no need to dance to the voice of the clowns. these are the same set who made a big drama over not providing the Periodic Table for the Chemistry Question Paper. If it was provided then why would it be considered as an examination

    Yehiya Monday, 27 August 2012 07:18 AM

what a shame. Playing with kids. this so much political appointments in the education department.

    Bandara Monday, 27 August 2012 09:49 AM

This now looks like a sabotage. Whoever's doing, please think of the innocent children who suffer. I fully oppose the government's recent conduct alongwith all other reasonable citizens but do not agree at all on any sabotage that affect the innocent children so badly.

    Dinesh Monday, 27 August 2012 09:50 AM

So the CTU wait till and exams are over and complain the very next day.
What are the evidences they have?

Imran Hussein Monday, 27 August 2012 10:02 AM

Why the heck the exam wasnt called off. Poor students, this is something totally unbearable. Taken everything so lightly, so scary.

    kali Monday, 27 August 2012 10:19 AM

i love how all you people who have never done chemistry in your life is criticizing the CTU for dragging up the periodic table issue.

    1. the students were used to the periodic table being provided at all previous exams. What the govt. did this time was to simply not issue it without even informing the students.

    2. yes, the first 20 elements of the table ARE supposed to be memorized by students, but you try memorizing the rest, especially the transition metals, and then come and try to talk here like a fool.

    Wimal Monday, 27 August 2012 11:19 AM

    what a heart-less request?
kids have sacrificed a lot from their childhood.
These type of curruptions are common in all exams.

    Dhammika Monday, 27 August 2012 11:25 AM

If the govt cannot take responsibility of grade 5 exam, how can they handle O/L and A/L exams without corruptions ??

This is why parents pushing their children towards Landon O/L & A/L exams through international schools....

Bandara Perera Monday, 27 August 2012 11:27 AM

Z score, Wrong questions in A/L's and the paper leak. Series of such events over a shorter period is not acceptable by any standards and people responsible (minister & deputy, commissioner etc.,) should be questioned on their compentency to handle the job and remove if necessary.

Grade V scholarship must be abolished. Instead a grade 10 or grade 8 scholarship should be considered,
