Sri Lanka Cricket today expressed its dismay over the playing of a Hindi song instead of a song which reflects the Sri Lankan identity when the Lankan team was introduced during the opening ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy in London yesterday.
Speaking to Daily Mirror Online Secretary of the SLC Nishantha Ranathunga confirmed that he had sent a letter to the ICC demanding an explanation from the ICC regarding the mix up.
“The song that was played was not keeping in line with the identity of Sri Lanka. The entire Lankan cricketing fraternity and the public was dismayed as a result of this and we demand an explanation from the ICC as to how this happened?” Media Manager of the SLC Rajitha Fernando said.
The letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer was sent today.
During the opening ceremony yesterday a Hindi song was played when Sri Lankan Cricket Captain Angelo Mathews introduced the team at the ceremony, whereas when songs from respective countries were played when captains of other nations introduced themselves.
The Lankan team is introduced at 5.25 which lasts till 5.54 (Hafeel Farisz)

Typical of our small minded clowns in charge. They react so strongly for minor issues but are silent on the major issues.
weha Friday, 07 June 2013 09:52 AM
There are bigger issues right now that dismay the entire Lankan cricketing fraternity and the public. A stupid song is the least of their concerns

Ignore these small issues, after all sportsman never take such things seriously. better concentrate on the game and prove the ability. In recent times, srilankans re becoming very stupid and wastes time on minor matters.

Sure, the organizers could not find a Chinese song to play. Next option was taken. It was an Indian. We got all messed up locally. It has become contagious internationally too. Miracles taking place day in and day out. Vertex

Mind you people. The match is played in India not in SriLanka. Narrow-mindedness should have a limit.
Inium Friday, 07 June 2013 10:03 AM
we SLCL is already under BCCI. Have we forget that. Or may be SLC worried that they should have played some Chinese songs instead of Hindi.
