All kinds of liquor including whisky and brandy produced locally using foreign sprits have been increased due to the 25% tax imposed on imported sprits at the recent budget, the Distilleries (Lanka) Company said.
Accordingly, the price of a bottle of special arrack, blue label and white label arrack has been increased by Rs. 20 and the price of bottle of whisky and brandy produced locally has been risen by Rs. 30, the company said.
It also said there would be no changes in the prices of coconut arrack.(Mahinda Nissanka)
This will result in 25 % increase of poverty and quarrels among poor families.

Never mind. With the incentives given for toddy tapping, very soon we all can drink enough toddy and make merry. "Mage sudu maame, raa podiyak dee maa sanasanne"

Let alcohol be consumed by affordable customers. But the sad part is even an ordinary person who can not maintain his family is spending major part of income for drinks. This can not be controlled by the govt. as their mind should strike of their capacity. Now a days everywhere irrespective of sad ,happy or any other immotional event it is alcohol which takes the lead.
