High profile money lender abducted

A 55 year old businessman who was known to be a high profile money lender in Kotahena had been abducted this morning resulting in protests in the area, the police said.

The incident had taken place in the Jampatah Lane when the victim known as ‘Christopher’ was abducted by an unidentified gang who came in a van, police media spokesman Ajith Rohana said.

A protest was held in Kotahena with the participation of more than 300 people in the area, the police said.

The protest lasted for several hours and they were peacefully dispersed after the police promised that the victims whereabouts will be uncovered along with the suspects.

Reason behind the abduction is yet to be established and according to residents of the area the victim who is well known in the area had not committed any crime.

Also the family members had not got any calls asking for ransom. The family members of the abducted have lodged a complaint with the Kotahena police.

In the recent past abductions were reported in Warakapola, Kelaniya, Dematagoda and Ragama, SP Rohana said. (Supun Dias)

    This sounds very familiar to that incident in Ragama where that Devalaya person was kidnapped, tortured and murdered. Whatever the crime, a civilized society has the responsibility of trying them in open court for the public to see.

    This country is gone crazy. Drugs, rapes, roberries, murders, abductions when and where is this going to end?
    Main reason for this is high level corruption, and no employment and hunger.

    Hello did he forced other people to come and get money from him ?? if u people have miseries and misfortune then u go and get loan from bank or state. Why do u go to the money lender and later blame them. He didnt force anyone to come and get money from him
