Good move. Need to check the fare as I’ll be coming back to SL tomorrow. Anyone know?

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:57 AM

Well will they allow duty free luggage to be loaded to helicopter ! what ever its a good imitative ...

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:04 AM

Great idea and move.Make it a regular ride for a resonable fee.last minute passengers-great news

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:08 AM

Must be apreciated. This is a good move. But do it professionaly please, appoint enough staff for pasenger queries.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:10 AM

Well said Faizy. This is not the time to talk politics. Good move by SLAF

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:21 AM

this is only a temporary solution for the present situation. Since our Govt. transport is doing a good job. So why go for an expensive one, which we cannot afford for regular service.

i think we should be concerned about the major cause. The drain system. This is not the first time it occured.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:23 AM

Also, SL NAVY can operate a boat service

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:37 AM

Good Stuff SLAF! People really need a quick route to the airport no doubt. And please everybody who's complaining about the displaced...what connection does that have with this news item. Every thing does not have to be political and we do not have to be cynical about everything. Stop cursing the darkness...Light a candle!

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:42 AM

    Effective Dissaster Management. Very promising.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:44 AM

this forward thinking approach should be appreciated. but the bigger issue is resolving the major drainage problems. there better be an inquiry to this, and some major infrastructure changes are called for.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:54 AM

    Hey Captain
have u finished the Saline Mission ?????

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:55 AM

Yes Malkanthi. The above is a perfect example of how people are never satisfied. People are given solutions to the problems and yet these guys complain. They dont think before they talk.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 09:04 AM

    AQ very novel thing.
    Use your expertise.& time profitably.

Way to go Airforce....... Congratulations """
    Well thought........................................excellent
Enterprising. Something good come off the bad weather

make it a permanent event and have a fleet of AF vehicles ready to transport to hotels homes in the surbaban of Colombo. In corporate in the fare.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:53 AM

Given phone no is busy and You cannot contact them

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 09:42 AM

ARE WE USING HELICOPTERS TO SAVE ORDINRAY PEOPLE FROM DROWNING?

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 09:42 AM

The Air force should do a shuttle service as a service to the stranded passengers without charging a fee. Just imagine the amount of fuel wasted on the Politicians during the last two elections. Was the Air Force paid for the services during the elections.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 09:53 AM

good move. navy can use hamilton canal to transport people and goods to and from katunayeka.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 09:59 AM

    Wonder of Asia? or
    Mircale of Asia??
Joke of the Century! Only one road to the only International Airport and that also is shut!

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 10:02 AM

So what? It is good to use available resources in armed forces to provide services to the citizens of this country and make money. So in the future the forces can soften the burden on Government budget. Good moves are good. We should not be reluctant to appreciate them.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 10:07 AM

Air Force has a fleet of flights! here they are using only the helicopters! Use common sense!!!

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 10:14 AM

    Great.
Believe me,this will create good a demand for this service.

Also they need to operate direcr service from Katunayake to the following areas.

    1. Colombo
    2.Jaffna
    3.Bentota
    4.Batticaloa
    5.Trincomalee

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 10:23 AM

Machan, Speak to them on 011-3144944. Heli Tours, (AF Domestic Civil Aviation Service) they are professionals in the Civil Aviation.
If you are unable to contact them (Some break-downs have been reported in Telecom Services), I guess you can inquire at the BIA, Katunayake. The met Dept predicted that the weather will be Ok by tomorrow, and hopefully road transport will be normal. So, come to SL without fear. Wish you a comfortable journey.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 10:24 AM

Good move. Last night i saw how the people tried to reach Airport through flooded road in Seeduwa area. especially the foreigners by walking in flooded road.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 10:55 AM

hmmm navy should operate a boat service to the Air Port as well.. Will be helpful to those who can't afford a helicopter ride..!!!

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 11:12 AM

Keep on trying this number, as there will be so many people who are trying to contact and they might not be able to cope up.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:14 AM

we are out at Minuwangoda just near the airport and the road here is terrible.trying to get our family to the airport too (only 5 min job).

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 06:53 AM

    What is the fee

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 06:53 AM

A nominal fee? How much per km? Rs. 1500/- for airport drop?

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 06:55 AM

Very good idea. Time to help people in need and will also not keep those equipment idleing. The income would atleast cover their maintanance as well.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 06:55 AM

You are asking the impossible. Be realistic man! as for flights there is a deadline, authorities will attend to the displaced.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 06:58 AM

Our inherent cynicism at everything is sickening…

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 06:59 AM

Dont be sarcastic! this is a time of calamity, dont talk business.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:00 AM

Could you please use the air-transport to drop some food items to the needy people marooned in the Kalutara District

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:00 AM

Helicopter ?? Better try a seaplane.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:05 AM

I welcome the news. Don't link this with politics. I am employed in Saudi Arabia. I knew for many passengers it takes longer to travel within SL than being flown from KSA.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:08 AM

SLAF - Future Aviation (Pvt) Ltd.,

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:11 AM

    good move

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:13 AM

Dear commander in chief suggest to transport the trapped civilians first for free services this is a good idea in nation service .

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 06:49 AM

Is transport to and from the airport more important than the homeless condition of many due to the rain?
    Actions speak louder than words.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:14 AM

Given phone no is busy and You cannot contact them.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:17 AM

Although this is a horrific nightmare, every Sri Lankan should treat this as a blessing and a wake up call. Relevent ministries, authorities and responsible bodies were in deep sleep for decades and time has come to fire all these lazy fellas to prevent big disasters. It would be a simple question to ask what have WE done to preserve the enviorment rather than polluting it everyday in every possible manner.?

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:18 AM

Y people see everything in politics....this way we will not get forwad..............

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:21 AM

we live right near Katunayake.it is terrible out here.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:22 AM

I think this will be good for everytime.( not in this situation only) Ranther than spending Rs. 1500.00 and travel alone the road in trafic jam. It's a good idea, I guess.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:32 AM

Well done, AF boys. This is the service from you, other than Military transport is expected from you. Good move.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:40 AM

This is very good initiative...must give opportnutinty you more private aviation companies..with reasonable fare..

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:43 AM

What about a lorry copter. You can tell Sajin Vaas Gunawardene to start a Mihin Air lorry copter service from Katunayake and make hay whilst the people are marooned. This is another money making gundu.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:47 AM

Now practicing to evacuate relatives from I-Ran.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:47 AM

I HOPE THESE HELICOPTERS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION IF NOT ASKING FOR TROUBLE

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:51 AM

Just imagine in the future when we have to go Hambantota airport..... What a great idea. You get down south sighseeing too........ Ahead of thinking
