Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena today said the present format of the Grade-5 Scholarship Examination would be changed in 2016.

He said unlike today, from 2016 this examination would no longer be a competitive examination.

This examination should be completely done away with immediate effect which is depriving the child of his or her prime time to play . Instead English language should be made compulsory like Tamil and Sinhala at GCE OL and AL in all national schools because can not let the standard fall and the frog in the well education lead our children to further narrow, racial and fanatic religious minded while becoming a barrier for extensive higher qualifications

ith most of them have lack of nutritional food though available for Rs 7500 according to the former economics teacher

So that's the end of a poor child's entry into a good school. Those who shout against this exam are people without children or whose children have already passed that age. Don't bs with your philosophy that all schools are same. Popular schools have a distinct advantage in every aspect of life. That's the bitter truth. At least few children from poor families should get that opportunity

Bandula,you have done very silly work. until now,these poor kids get chance to admit to popular school and after stopping these grade 5 exam,only kids who have rich parents will get this popular school .

The game plan of the ex-tuition teacher called "Dana Rina" is very clear. Let those children who study in village schools continue there without troubling the elite schools which are reserved for the kids of the politicians and their hangers-on so that they can go on to take over from the current rulers. So, much for free education!
