Government slams Fonseka
The government has accused General Sarath Fonseka of attempting to downplay the war victory by disputing the date on which the country was liberated from the clutches of terrorism after he said yesterday that Prabhakaran was killed on May 19 and not 18.
Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella made these remarks at a press conference a short while ago.
Fonseka said yesterday that the Tiger leader was only killed after President Mahinda Rajapaksa had declared in Parliament on May 19 that Prabakaran was dead. (SD)

Why is our war hero acting in such an irresponsible & wayward manner? He is putting our country into more turmoil. The dates does make a big difference. If I remember right, the war ended on the 18th May. What the General is trying to state is that VP was not killed whilst in combat but after capture and by stating this he is playing further into the hands of the anti-Lankan forces.

My house is sorrounded by water. The road to my house is flooded with 3 feet high water. But my main concern was what was the date that LTTE Leader Prabakaran died. Even our family had an argument about the date of his death as some said it was the 18th and some said it was the 19th May. My youngest brother even said that it was in November 2007 that Prabhakaran died, because it was uncle Rambukwella who on national Rupavahini , that day said that Prabhakaran died.
All my problems will be over if I can find a solution to the exact date of his death. Not only me but all Sri Lankans main problem at this moment is finding the date.

Govt has not forgotten who won the war, but not Gen Fonseka alone. Truth is bitter, but you have to admit it and and at same time you have to admit Gen Fonseka's iresponsible statements which put SL govt and Armed Forces in GRAVE danger. Recent article by Col Gotabhaya Rajapakesa mentioned about the General in a positive way. It is the JVP clowns around Gen Fonseka who fed him with poisonous material and made him a traitor.

Do you also propose forgiving everyone who slanders, steals or engages in other petty and serious criminal activities? Its bad enough that kudu Lals and the like get away with political patronage, but we should all respect the law and be ready for punishment if we are caught and proved as doing so. No one should be forgiven for slandering the good name of a nation and bringing disrepute to a nation and its army. Not SF, not RW, not Mahinda Rajapakse.

It is a shame on us great Sri Lankans, a tiny dot in the Indian Ocean with a very high literacy rate above 90%to fight like street dogs for some interested parties to laugh at us. We are superficially patriotic and of course we have our own Agendas and this applies to the Government and the opposition as well.

Why does the dates make such big issue here. The main thing is the forces as a team got rid of the bad guys and that is end of the story. Let start developing the country than complaining.
