The Morawaka police arrested a mason who is alleged to have posed off as a gynaecologist and visited homes in Morawaka and Banagala where he had examine women who wanted to be examined whether they were pregnant.

The man clad in tie, long sleeve shirt and trousers had impressed gullible villagers who believed he was a qualified gynaecologist and gladly welcomed him to have them examined.

The bubble burst when the ‘doctor’ had attempted to grope a young woman while pretending he was examining her. The elders at home who had suspected something amiss had caught the man and handed him over to the police.

When police questioned the man he had said he was attached to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital but this was found to be false.

Medicines, condoms and other birth control devices were found in his brief case.

The 35-year-old mason who is a resident of Kosnilgoda will be produced in the Morawaka Magistrate Courts soon. (Krishan Jeewaka Jayaruk)

To be considered educated, the person concerned should have a deep understanding of themselves and how they fit into the world, and have learned soft skills, complex problem-solving, creativity, entrepreneurship, the ability to manage themselves, and the ability to be lifelong learners.

Sri Lanka may be 90% literate but vast majority uneducated.

Don't these women understand that they need to go to a hospital or a doctor's surgery, at the minimum, to find out if they are pregnant? The country brags it is 90% literate but I must say at least 40% are ignorant, and another 40% consult astrologers and voodoo practitioners.
