Member of Parliament General Sarath Fonseka, speaking to Daily Mirror online a short while ago, said that LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabakaran was killed on May 19 last year and not May 18 as claimed by the government after the war.

Fonseka said that the Tiger leader was only killed after President Mahinda Rajapaksa had declared in Parliament on May 19 that Prabakaran was dead.

The former army commander who led the military during the last stages of the war also expressed disappointment at the way he was treated after the military victory against the Tigers.

but the most wanted war criminals are still in safe place

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:58 AM

Having taken all the benifits from the government, and now do all the damage not only to the government but also to whole country. Shame on you SF.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:59 AM

I have gone to the archives of papers and according to news items on the papers of the 20th May 2009 the terrorists leaders body was found on the 19th.May 2009. Further army commander had said that there is no possibility of the terrorist leader surviving the Mondays(18th) bloody onslaught.Tamilnet on the tuesday 19th at 0152 GMT claimed that terrorist leader is not killed. Onviously there is confusion as to the exact date. But does it matter?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:00 AM

    is this politics ???

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:01 AM

SF is the man who went to the battlefield with his men and thrashed the LTTE into pieces so we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. People in A/C rooms don't know too much.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:02 AM

not being a supporter of praba

But all fellow sinhalese.. know one thing....
prabaharan will only have been killed by his own bullet....
his body would never have reached the hands of his enemies.....

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:07 AM

Not a big issue. The most wanted terrorist is dead and gone now

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:10 AM

It does not take too much time go from hero to zero when someone utters this rubbish.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:13 AM

Why most of the Guys are in panic when they hear the truth. Everyone should know the truth is bitter. People of this country has right to know the truth as war has done with tax payers' money

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:13 AM

If he was appointed by the SLFP government earlier he would've definitely done it. Unfortunately it was done at a later date (2005), after the JVP joined the SLFP!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:15 AM

Was SF on battlefeild or In China?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:15 AM

What is the difference in celebrating independence day on Feb 4 or April 1??? Because 4th of feb is the correct date! get that! Likewise 19th of May should be the proper day for it should go down in history accurately.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:16 AM

Uttering the truth is rubbish? we surely are in a banana republic!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:17 AM

yeah.. the question is did you pay your tax to fight the war?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:19 AM

    Dont talk like idiots....

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:57 AM

well said..... i am afraid not...... prabaharan will live in the mouth of these politicians for 1000 more years to come.......

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:27 AM

Are u saying the JVP was responsible for Fonseka's promotion and placement as commander of the army?? SERIOUSLY???

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:39 AM

That is what the remaining LTTE supporters try to prove which is only a fraction of the population. Who cares?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:43 AM

During the final days of the battle, SF was shopping in China.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:43 AM

Have you paid last year tax ???

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:47 AM

Whatever the date he was killed we still do not have a death certificate.!!!!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 09:52 AM

We don't care about the date. We wanted Praba to be killed to get peace for mother lanka. It 's done.
GEN...please talk about cost of living & other problems face by comman man.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 10:13 AM

    Truth can't be burried.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 10:27 AM

What a priviledged prisoner. He can give telephone interviews to the media from prison. He can go to the parliament from prison also. This is 5 star democracy which is being abused by SF. Who says there is no democracy in Sri Lanka.?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 10:37 AM

If the date is wrong it should be corrected ofcause the real war hero knows better than others The rest think that they know better than others?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 10:58 AM

    In one word "Disaster."

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 11:05 AM

Question is, is he a prisoner or political prisoner?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 11:29 AM

This is vital peice of evidance for the human rights group and the UN to file a case against the responsible departments and the individuals who have ordered the killings.

    Friday, 21 May 2010 12:06 AM

Is the LTTE leader really dead? Someone knows the truth.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:32 AM

HE WILL TELL MORE IN FUTURE AND MAKE THE WHOLE WORLD LAUGH.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 07:48 AM

LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabakaran is no more whether its 18 or 19. GF what do you gain disputing the date of this day?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 07:49 AM

Whether he was killed on the 18th or 19th or before or after the president's declarion, what difference does it make? He should have been killed long ago and apart from killing him is there any better treatment Prabha deserved? Make him the king of this country?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 07:58 AM

In the thick of things it is unfortunate to see the General kept away from all events/ publications in commemoration of the War victory.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:03 AM

Was the General in the country during the last few days of the conflict to get first hand information about the war situation than the President himself who was followng events close at hand?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:03 AM

If the military hadn't commited war crimes, then who killed the people who came with white flag, as you said earlier ??
You had done all the damage to SL. Now whatare you talking about. Just to wash your hands from the mess you created.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:05 AM

    Truth is comming out..

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:07 AM

He is so ignarant in politics. He thinks he can defeat MR by saying those things. Poor politics, Just same as JVP !!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:07 AM

    Mr Fonseka.,

Pls be silent. what ever you said we don't care. it is finished. and why do you worry about the date. Do you need to stay under custody more and more. and can you kindly tell people about the Dollars which were found from Danuna's mother locker(Sampath Bank) We like to know about that more than Praba's killd date.

    LOL.... Sahan.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:11 AM

Only the man who handled the war knows the correct date. Now we can see what Govt contribution was. They dont even know when Praba was killed.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:18 AM

May be excessive force was used at the latter stages by the government to achieve its objective. If so, it naturally holds true the incidence of civilian casualties too would be unnecessarily greater. Regardless of whether it is a civilian or ten thousand of them, it is unacceptable. As a citizen who backed the government objective, I too am responsible, albeit to a higher order.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:23 AM

Goverment is right they celebrate captured date , and not murdered date

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:24 AM

I strongly support Gen. Fonseka. But digging things now will help neither The General himself nor Srilanka. MR is busy running behind India and G15, without sorting out domestic issues. Western europe is tarnishing SL image. I dont know where we heading towards with these politicians.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:25 AM

Everyone in this country has the right to express their views. I know how the security forces arrest people. How many of us really believe this news? if you are supporter of government ,then you will support the news even if it is not true. But General is suspected war criminal too!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:25 AM

Its is of very big significance. If Fonseka is to be believed the president annouced the death before he was killed and that means they had him in capture and killed him after !! DOnt you see it is what the west said would have happend.

Not that he deserved any less - is this what Fonseka is trying to indirectly tell us.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 07:44 AM

now 18 th is 19th mmmmm whats happening over here

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:33 AM

WHAT DOES GENERAL EXPECT BY GIVING THE EXACT DATE?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:36 AM

Simple. Then he is the hero. Not MR.
    MR revealed it on 18.
    SF revealed it on 19

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:36 AM

General Sarath Fonseka is a disciplined man.It is a pity that people (even the educated) do not believe this.I think the real truth is coming out now.General Sarath Fonseka never harms anyone and this is evident by some military events which have occurred way back.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:36 AM

It appears SF getting memory lapses. If remember correct, president was silent on "Praba" when he addressed the parliament.
However, it was a good riddance whether on 18th or 19th make no difference. Our gratitude to every one including SF, for the job well done.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:39 AM

He just made the facts correct. People are over reacting to his statement.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:45 AM

can't anyone do politics without using Prabhakaran..?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:48 AM

Yeah right there was no contribution from the government. I wonder why Fonseka couldnt do it under previous governments in that case. Rubbish!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:50 AM

Please leave it as it . Hope Justice is done to the General.and work together to develop this country

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:50 AM

And the difference it creates is ....?

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:53 AM

Betraying the Country for his personal well begin. This Guy is a Headache to the country.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:53 AM

Unfortunately, SF's discipline was not evident when he was spouting rubbish from the election stage. He did not appear officerly or gentlemanly to anyone who had ears and understood Sinhala even at its most basic.
I would have believed the officer and gentleman story (I have met SF when he was heading the army) if I had not heard all that from the stage. Now? No way.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:54 AM

Facts by definition ARE correct. They dont need correcting. If someone corrects facts, that means they are lying or they were not facts in the first place. You cant manufacture facts!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:56 AM

"Everyone in this country has the right to express their views"

Really? are you living in a dream lanka? if what you said was true, why were journalists threatened, abducted and murdered?
