Focus on South Indian Tamils-Wimal

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jeyalalitha Jeyaram and DMK Chief M. Karunanidhi should focus on the welfare of the suffering Tamils in South India without talking of establishing a state of Eelam, Minister Wimal Weerawansa said on Saturday.

Addressing a function in Ampara, Construction and Common Amenities Minister Weerawansa said the Tamils in Sri Lanka were leading better lifestyles than the Tamils in South India.

He charged that both Ms. Jeyalalitha and Mr. Karunanidhi were deceiving the innocent Tamils in Tamil Nadu and only concentrating in building their images.

“They are working according to the agenda of making Sri Lanka hub of the imperialists,” he said.

He said the Sri Lankan government was focusing on rebuilding North and the East which were under the clutches of the LTTE in the past.

Development of the North and East should be according to the needs of the affected people better known to the elected representatives.Unfortunately this is not taking place.Tamils of India are very much litterate and the poor enjoy lots of benifits from the Tamilnadu Government and are proud to call them Tamils and administer their own regions without being made as second class citizens

They should not only look after those Tamils who left Sri Lanka shores during the LTTE mayham, they should give them the citizenship to those poor souls and make them live among themself. After all they are Tamil, which they distinctly call themself and never call them Sri Lankan, isn't it? So don't keep them in refugee camps anymore please. It is better to build permanent houses for them in TN rather than in SL and give them ctizenship too.

To an extent I agree Minister... But if India , or china or Pakistan, looked after their own citizens, we would not have won the war right Minister...? International politics is different than that of local politics....They have their own interests, and we have our own, and we know, no one minds their own business and pressures mounts from everywhere...Its that we have to be diplomatic in handling those pressures...open statements like this, will not help us....
